He's David S. Cohen's evil twin. He had been locked up in the attic of the
FOX building until Matt Groening discovered him gnawing on some old beta
tapes of "Fish Police." Intrigued and knowing he would be the perfect
addition to the Futurama team, Matt Groening enlisted his help and together
they wrote "Space Pilot 3000" over a bucket of severed fish heads and
rotisserie chicken.

When he was with "The Simpsons", David Cohen was not a member of the
Writer's Guild. When he joined the WG, he discovered they already had a
member named David S. Cohen. Thus, David X. Cohen was born.

Grosse, maybe you should be writing for the Simpsons/Futurama. You certainly
have the imagination for it.

Apparently he added the middle name/initial to distinguish himself from
an existing David Cohen in the Writers' Guild.

A friend pointed out to me that this was the basis for Homer's own search
to discover his middle initial - Homer was faking his resume and wanted to
list himself in the SAG so he needed to know the middle initial! Cool
parallel! I wonder if this is true.
