It seems to me that there hasn't been an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon
shown on The Simpsons in two or three seasons. Where'd they go?

Although they appeared briefly at the start of the "Kidz Newz" episode last
season, I think their long absence is the result of the death of Simpsons'
voice-over actress Doris Grau, who along with Lunch Lady Doris, also did the
voices of Itchy and Scratchy.

Even though Itchy and Scratchy spoke very little besides their screams and
cries, I think they were removed as a tribute to Mrs. Grau, much like Lionel
Hutz and Troy McClure were removed from the show to respect the passing of
Phil Hartman.

If any of this information is incorrect, please feel free to let me know!

Doris Grau did NOT do the voices of Itchy & Scratchy. And there were
many I & S appearances after Ms. Grau's death (midway through season
7). Just not so many lately.

There was an entire segment about them in the latest Hallowe'en special.

Yea, but it wasn't very good, IMO. I liked the one where they made fun of
Marge(they were playing baseball and a squirrel with huge blue hair was the
ump and then Scratchy hit the squirrels head out of the stadium to get a
homerun)

Haven't gone anywhere. The only times we saw them lately, was in the opening
of "Girly Edition", and "The Terror Of Tiny Toon" segment from "Teehouse Of
Horror IX".

Harry Shearer does the voice of Scratchy and Dan C. the voice of Itchy. You'll
notice Scratchy sounds sort of like a high-pitched cross between Lenny and
Marvin Monroe. Sample Itchy & Scratchy Land.
