One of the funniest ever moments for me was the little McGarnigle bit in
"The Bot Who Knew Too Much". It was hilarious, especially in the context of
the storyline.

Did anyone else really enjoy McGarnigle?

I wonder why he hasn't featured a bit more in The Simpsons.

A bird in the hand is not worth two in the bush any more - that was under
the old imperial measure. Now it's worth 1.75 birds in the bush.

Back when I was a regular here, there was a supposition that MacGarnicle (I
don't think an official spelling was ever reached) was voiced by Albert Brooks.
(Brooks voiced one-shot characters Hank Scorpio, Bob the RV saleman, and
Jaques.) He also voiced Brad Goodman, and MacGarnicle's appearance in "Bart's
Inner Child" was probably the connection. I don't know if this was ever
confirmed, but the absense of both MacGarnicle _and_ Brooks suggests that the
latter may have indeed been the voice behind the former.

Good old http://www.snpp.com/episodes/1F19.html:

At home, Bart watches the end of an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon when Lisa
walks in.

Lisa: So, Bart, have your insides been gnawed away by guilt yet?
Bart: Sell it to Hallmark, Sis. You're looking at Cucumber boy, as
in "Cool as a".
Announcer: [on TV] Next, on "McGonigle", McGonigle is framed for a crime
he didn't commit. And only one person can clear his name: a
little sissy boy who's too scared to come forward.
McGonigle: You gotta tell 'em what you saw, Billy.
Billy: But I'm so _scared_, McGonigle.
McGonigle: You gotta do this one for me, Billy: McGonigle.
Billy: Well, OK. For you, McGonigle.
Much later.
Chief: Well, McGonigle, Billy is dead. They slit is throat from ear
to ear.
McGonigle: Hey! I'm trying to eat lunch here.

And now, another gem from the vault at http://www.snpp.com/episodes/1F05.html:

Homer: Ooh! It's that new show about the policeman who solves
crimes in his spare time.
Bart: Crank it, Homer!
Chief: You busted up that crack house pretty bad, McGonigle. Did
you really have to break so much furniture?
McGonigle: You tell me, Chief. You had a pretty good view from behind
your desk.
Homer: Ah, McGonigle: eases the pain.
Chief: You're off the case, McGonigle!
McGonigle: You're off _your_ case, Chief!
Chief: What does that mean exactly?
Homer: [yelling] It means he gets results, you stupid chief!
Lisa: Dad, siddown.
Homer: Oh, I'm sorry.
