Driving into work this morning one of the DJ's said that on an upcoming
episode of _The Simpsons_ the board sequence will be Bart writing
"It's potato, not potatoe" to poke fun at our V.P.

I doubt this is true, but I got a chuckle out of it, nonetheless.

Yup, it is true. OFF attacks more Republicans! Here is the story from
today's Washington POST. (w/out permission of course.)

Also at Fox yesterday, illustrators were busy making changes in the
intoduction of this Thursday's repeat of "The Simpsons" in an effort
to help Bart "make certain Vice-President Dan Quayle knows how to
spell `potato'."
. . .
The opening of this Thursday's episode will find Bart at his familiar
blackboard wrining over and over: "potato not potatoe."

Said a spokesman for the series, "they are doing this specifically to
accomodate Mr. Quayle."

Perhaps the vice-president can find some consolation in all this when
he learns that in the original opener for the episode Bart wrote on
the balckboard "I will not Xerox my butt," which a producer conceded
yesterday "was the crassest one we've ever done."

Unless the spokesman was really saying, "They are doing this specifically to
accommodate Mr. Quayle," the producers are in no position to point fingers.

It looked like it was slapped on at the last minute; it moved around in
relation to the rest of the image (or was that the rest of the image moving
around in relation to it?). Even so, for people who don't sit six inches
away from their TV (blindness? Nobody told me about blindness) the effect
was great.

Ghod, I hope we can get politics back to politics and not spelling. :=)

They didn't even seem to do a good job patching in the potatoe-sequence. My
VCR switches from SP to EP as soon as the sequence starts, then back to SP
when it's done.

Yeah, Monty's voice was definitely odd, particularly when he made the
announcement on the PA. We couldn't even tell who it was.
