I have dropped by this newsgroup a couple times since the Salon article, I was

Yeah, it sure does!
And whatever it means it's true.

We actually don't bash IMG as much on this newsgroup anymore. That's so 1998.
We bash Mike Scully now, and will continue with him until we get bored. Then
we'll move on to Ron Hague, I suppose.

Yeah.....
Ron Hauge, it's all *his* fault, he's the one. He's the one behind the show's
freefall into mediocrity.

Let's get'em, boys.

Aside from the fact that when he was hired to write for the Simpsons, he had
never seen a episode, you mean? Or that they pulled him from the eternally
looping comedy abyss that is Saturday Night Live? Or that he comes off as the
most smug no-talent hack since Brett Easton Ellis?

That was actually done by John Swartzwelder, who used to do great zany episodes
that were very funny and still had some coherence and believability (Itchy &
Scratchy Land, Homer the Vigilante). He only really works as a consultant for
the show anymore, which leads me to believe it's not really the quality of his
own writing that's gone down but the quality of the writing staff that takes
episode ideas from him. I haven't liked a Swartzwelder episode since "The
Cartridge Family" and I haven't seen a really good one since
"Homer the Smithers."

Actually, I liked both of those. He seems to be a man who can take his
characters out of character while providing an entertaining episode. His only
bad one was "The Trouble With Trillions", and that one REALLY REALLY STUNK!
Nonetheless, I still think he's a jerk.

Here's my .02 on his episodes:

Burn, Baby Burns- One of Season 8's best. Dagnerfield was put to great use, and
"Stupid Economic Recovery!" had me laughing for days.

HS Vs. NYC- Hated it. I thought it had a lot of dumb jokes, and all in all,
Homer was very annoying. Some of the only redeeming qualities included the
Mountain Dew crack and "Checkin' In".

TwT- Clever title, and while this one isn't popular, I like it purely cause
it's a sort of a nice friday-night episode, one which shouldn't be taken at all
seriously.

TotT: Homer was pretty annoying in this one, but none the less, this episode
was bombarded with some good jokes.

Lisa Gets An A: The only human story of Season 10. That's enough as it is.

E-I-E-I D'oh: The first act had this weird hilarity to it, and freeze-framing
the Zorro credits gave a really good laugh. Second act was ok, the truck gag
was good, and Bart was put to good use. The ending was one of the most
often-used complaints of Season 10 unfortunately.

If I remember correctly, Graham wrote "Burns, Baby Burns" in which
Rodney Dangerfield stars. Wasn't there a scene cut from that episode
that appeared later in a special? The scene I'm thinking about was
with the robotic Richard Simmons...I'm curious because that just
doesnt seem like his "humour"?

I still like the entries I've read from the "Bad Faulkner" series of
contests. As easy as it is to write bad Hemingway, it's laughably simple
to produce bad Faulkner. Hell, Faulkner himself often did it.
