Who Shot Mr. Burns?

I'm waching season 7 of the simpsons DVD. And, I did not know this,
there was
a contest to name the person who shot Mr. Burns. Apparently there was
only
one person who correctly named Maggie as the shooter. He posted the
answer
on one of these usenet groups instead of using the hotline. The
producers of the
simpsons still want to give a prize to the person but cannot get hold
of him.
Does anyone here know who the person is and where he can be found?

First of all, it wasn't a contest open to everybody. You had to make
a collect call using the 1-800-COLLECT service, and if you were
randomly selected, you were given a list of names of people who might
have done it and asked to choose one. The contest winner was supposed
to be chosen randomly from everybody who guessed Maggie, but what
happened was, they only took a certain number of guesses, and when
none of them guessed Maggie, somebody decided to choose the winner
from one of the wrong guesses rather than check the remaining guesses.
(Unfortunately, most of the Usenet posts to alt.tv.simpsons from that
era do not exist for some reason.)

What they said on the DVD was, they only knew of one person who
predicted not only who did it, but exactly how it was done. A number
of people, including myself, thought that Maggie was a strong
possibility (I had her #2, behind Mr. Burns shooting himself; I think
I was the first person to point out that Mr. Burns's holster was
empty, so I figured that he tried to pull out his gun, but he's so
weak that he barely got it out of the holster before he accidentally
pulled the trigger, and then he dropped the gun somewhere). I don't
remember ever seeing the solution posted in advance on alt.tv.simpsons
(and if I had, I probably would have responded, "Well, that's the
obvious solution, so they're not going to go with that!").

Speaking of the contest, there are two stories as to what happened to
the winner (and they may both be true, as the winner "and the person
she called" both won the prize - a trip to Los Angeles and a chance to
"be animated and interact with one or more Simpsons characters"). One
story is that the winner was not a Simpsons fan and took a cash prize
instead; the other is, the winner did fly to Los Angeles, but instead
of being put into a show (which a lot of people assumed was the prize;
I thought it would be that their image would appear in a second
Simpsons 1-800-COLLECT commercial, but they never made a second one),
she got a drawing by Matt Groening of herself and The Simpsons on
their couch.

Sure you did.

BTW, if anyone here knows - did they really make all those alternate endings
(as shows in
[3F31] The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular) at the production time of
"Who Shot Mr. Burns", so as to confuse would-be spies; OR did they make them
just as a gag for episode 138?

I heard that there were two versions of episode 138. One with the
alternate endings, and one without.

I prefer the term "wise man", but the idea is the important thing.
