If your TV has an Audio B control, you can find out. Yes, they do redub
it, but I don't remember if it's different. I think it is, as some of the
Spanish he speaks is incorrect phrasing.

Even though they redub everything but most of the songs, they dub the
Bumblebee guy in spanish. It sounds more mexican, though.

That's too bad because after 5 years of Spanish (including passing
the AP exam), the Bee Guy is the only Spanish speaker I can understand.

Matt or anyone that may know,

I do not speak any Spanish - please tell me what the Bee Guy is saying.
I heard one that sounds phonetically like "ester morovoro".

Thanks

I don't recall, but I cracked up even louder at the "Homerwreckers" team,

They just plain sucked! I've seen teams suck before, but
they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.

Nope, the Bee Guy was on the Channel 6 team. I loved the stereotypes,

You can tell that the writers only took a few years of Spanish, because
90% of the things Bumblebee Man says are those simple little phrases you
have to practice in Spanish class. They're taken from a textbook! (That's
why I can understand them - I took 2 years of the language and to this day
all I can remember are those damned practice phrases....

Part of the humor seems to be the totally silly nature of the
Spanish he uses. Somehow almost anything can sound funny when poorly
translated into Spanish.

From the "Homer the Molester" episode

"Ay ay ay! Es Homer Simpson! Me ha molestado!"
It's Homer Simpson! He has molested me!

Ayyyy! No es bueno! (It is not good!)

The verb "molestar" means "to bother, to annoy", not necessarily "to
molest sexually", which actually makes it funnier for students of Spanish.

I think that you need to be a bit more careful in your translation.
Yes, molestado and molest are cognates, but they do not mean the same
thing when translated. The verb "molestar" actually means "to bother"
in english.

example: No me molesta. = Don't bother me.

Nit picky I suppose, but when you come from california, it helps to
know the language.

Speaking of which, anyone know where Groening got the idea for the
spanish bee man? I think I remember seeing on PBS LOOOOOOONG ago, a
skit about this spanish guy in a bee costume. Anyone know what I'm
talkin about?

Stephen:
I think the line you heard was when the bee guy picks up a skunk and
says, "Aye, esta' malodoro." Which means "Aye, it stinks." You see thats
the beauty of the bee-guy. If if was your first language it wouldn't be
funny. But to me its hilarious. I think they sometimes fudge the spanish
and it becomes what I call spanglish.

A possible reason is suggested in Simpsons Comics #9, when Matt Groening
published a list of "114 Things I like that other people say they hate";
listed under #2 is "Mexican TV variety shows".

FYI quoted excerpts from MG's list:

1. Accordion music
4. Beavis and Butt-head
5. Ren and Stimpy
26. America's Funniest Home Videos
29. Hillbilly humor
32. The O.J. Trial
39. Fezzes
46. Barton Fink
55. Sinead O'Connor
64. The Media
71. Tabloid TV
78. The `It's a Small World' ride at Disneyland
88. Timothy Leary
89. Jerry Lewis
91. Bubblegum music from the 1960s, such as `Yummy Yummy Yummy'
94. Evil mind games
96. Making long, pointless lists
102. Woodstock
104. Los Angeles
113. Weird muttonchop sideburns
114. The Simpsons

I think its a combination of two characters from Spanish tv shows. In
one show there is a guy with a bee costume but the costume also has a
mask. In another show there is a guy who's costume has an open face
but he's supposed to be some type of grasshopper superhero. Put a red
suit and antennae on a guy and give him a hammer as a weapon and
you've got a crime-fighting grasshopper.
