I have always wondered what that insult meant. I never hear it anywhere
else but simpsons. It probabley is obvious to some event.

Isn't there a kid in Felix the Cat that's named Poindexter? And he has
this grandpa....

It refers to a nerd, a geek, an eyeglass-wearing slick-haired calculator
jockey, or something to that effect. I am unclear about its etymology,
but its most famous pop culture use in recent years was probably in Young
MC's "Bust A Move:" "A chick walks by, you wish you clould sex her,/ But
you're standing on the wall like you was POINDEXTER."
Hope that helps. Now I've got that damn song stuck in my head.

It means you're a brainy nerd-type, but I don't know where the reference
originated...probably from some guy...some guy named "Poindexter"...

(...after some thought)

Hey....I just remembered! In the late 60s/early 70s, there was a cartoon
character named Poindexter...he was black, brainy, and wore glasses!!!! And
isn't there ALSO a brainy character from the Archie comics named Poindexter?

In the "Barbie" game of the 1960's, there were several cards showing your
mystery date. The bookish one with a crew cut and glasses was Poindexter.
My brother always tried to get Poindexter.

Poindexter was also a character in "Revenge of the Nerds". He was played by
Timothy Busfield who went on to star in ThirtySomething.

Poindexter (sp?) has been a classic nerd charicature since the
50s. That name has been used 100s of times.

Poindexter was the Professor's brainy but nerdish nephew on
the old Felix the Cat cartoon show. Calling someone a
poindexter or addressing them as "Poindexter" means you think
they're a nerd.

The most famous Poindexter I can think of (complete with eyeglasses), was
the nephew of the evil Professor on the Felix the Cat cartoons. He was a
typical proto-nerd with an annoying voice and a deep love of SCIENCE.

I think he means "Buster Poindexter".

All I know is Buster Poindexter sang with Bart in the song "School Day"
which only be found on the "Simpsons Sing the Blues" album. Which
coincidently has pictures of Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Julie
Kavner, Yeardley Smith and Harry Shearer.

He was the evil professors nephew on the old Felix the cat cartoon
series. And he was very bright.
