I have a question:
In what episode (and context) does Homer sing the song
"Yes, we have no bananas"?
This has been bothering me since the weekend, when I heard
the song played in the movie Sabrina (the original)
Thanks for any help!

I believe it was the one with Jessica Lovejoy. Bart was going out on
his first date and Homer sang a medly of sad songs: "Sunrise, Sunset",
"Cat's in the cradle" and "Bananas"

Funny I should see this because I just saw this show on a re-run just few
minutes ago. It was when Bart fell in love with Rev. Lovejoys´ daughter,
Jessica and Bart was getting ready for a dinner at her home. He was in the
bathroom and Marge and Homer were watching him. Marge couldn't believe
that this was her little boy first date. Then Homer sang:
"Sun rise, sun sets, sun rise, sun sets etc."
And then he says they have no bananas.
You have to see this show because I my opinion this is one of Homers best
shows (He's not that much in it, but when he his, HAHA)
Hope this helps.

Just to set the record straight, Ugly Kid Joe's version is actually a
remake of an older 70s version. I don't remember who did the original but
it definitely wasn't UKJ...

The late Harry Chappin, of course.

I must be getting really old[I'm only 23] but Ugly Kid Joe's SONG
'Cat's in the Cradle?'
Actually it was Harry Chapin's song, he was a songwriter who died in
the 80's in a freak car crash, but he will be forever(well not forever,
obviously) immortalized as the singer of Cats in the Cradle.
They use Cats in the Cradle as the apropos song Homer hears while on
hold with the Father/Son Institute as well.

But who was the first to sing "Yes, We Have No Bananas"?
Who the fuck thinks its Little Kid Joe's song????????????
Probably thinks that U2 wrote Helter Skelter in Rythmn and Hum.
That's the joke! Harry Chapin also sang a song entitled "50,000 pounds
of bananas" and I think Homer was merely following a stream of
consciousness when he went from "Cats in the Cradle" to "Yes, we have no
bananas" which is one of the final lines on "50,000 pounds..."
