I'm not an afficionado of the show, I don't belong to any fan clubs or
get crazy on the topic. I just love the hell out of it and deem it
one of the most intelligently written shows of all time combined with
authentic "funny" laced with fearless satire. I'm aware of the
ongoing controversy of the enigmatic location of S'field, but never
pursued the answer other than a brief thought now and then. This is
most likely old news (I spent the last hour surfing the Simpsons
expecting to see comments regarding what I saw on a recent episode and
saw nothing): The Simpsons were at Disneyworld in Orlando and in one
scene a road sign read: "Springfield - 2,653 miles" (I may have
transposed the 6,5,3,..but it's moot). That sign CONCLUSIVELY PROVES
that Springfield is in Oregon. I'm VERY expert in navigation but only
needed a length of string and a globe of the Earth to PROVE this. I
didn't need navigational charts or instruments.....try this: .....get
a globe or even a simple road map of the CONTINENTAL USA and some
string. Using the distance scale on the map, roughly calculate 2,653
miles on the string (again, the 6, 5 or 3 may be transposed, but
yopu'll soon discover that it doesn't mean a damn...it's moot! Put
one end of the 2,653 mile piece of string on Orlando, stretch out the
string keeping the Orlando end firmly in place and then make an arc.
About 95% on the States are inside the arc and the only 2 States that
are anywhere near close to being that dist. from Disneyworld are
portions of Wash. and Ore. Washington does not have a Springfield.

Did I just waste my time? Is this common knowledge?
