I've noticed that the voice of Mr. Burns sounds much different
(lower) on the 1st season. Was there a different voice actor doing
him or did Harry Shearer alter his concept of Mr Burns as the show
grew?

Nearly all of the characters in the first season have much different
voices. Marge, Bart, Lisa, Homer, pretty much everybody. It probably
just took awhile for the actors to get a sense of the character and
what was funnier and better and what was not.

Snipped from the L.I.S.A.:

"There are still a few characters who sounded different in the first season.
Were all the same actors doing the voices?

Christopher Collins played Moe Szyslak in "Some Enchanted Evening" and Mr.
Burns in "Homer's Odyssey." He left The Simpsons to pursue a
stand-up career. Sadly, Collins died June 12th, 1994 after a two-year
illness."

I think I remember hearing that his son used to post to a.t.s. back in 1990,
too.

Well, even if Ben Collins hasn't been posting lately, it hasn't been *that
long* since his last post. <g>

Actually, it was later than then. His name is Ben Collins, and he started
posting in 1997, and still occasionally does.

Legend has it that Chris "Starscream" Latta filled in for Harry Shearer on
occasion during the first season, but there are no instances of Mr. Burns
sounding like Starscream, so even if it's true, there's no point to it.

No, I think everyone just sounded wrong in the first season, just because
it was the first season, and they hadn't settled into their true voices
yet.

B'oh! I know who Ben Collins is...let's just hope he doesn't see this thread...

He also played Wheeljack on transformers,,and when latta played moe he kind of
had wheeljacks voice,,done a little more low-key of course.
