Aw man...there was a TV Guide a few weeks back that featured a bunch of
little articles about the Simpsons, and one was about the writers past
and present. I think Jessica's name was there along with a short
write-up about what happened with her after the Simpsons...but I
wouldn't be surprised if she went right from the Simpsons to Seinfeld...

According to Writer Watch in the 4F08 episode capsule, Crittenden has been
working extensively on Seinfeld in addition to her work on the Simpson.
About Crittenden coming back to the show, I have mixed feelings. I liked "The
Twisted World of Marge Simpson" (sorry, Ben Collins) and "And Maggie Makes
Three" but I wasn't too fond of "The PTA Disbands" or "Scenes From The Class
Struggle in Springfield". Either Crittenden is way on or way off, much like Ken
Keeler.

Those're my feelings about her too. She is often maligned on this newsgroup
for various reasons, but I too liked some of her stories. "And Maggie Makes
Three" was a wonderful episode (those who decry it because they believe that it
disrupts too much continuity should remember that this is Homer remembering how
it was, and this episode itself shows how Homer edits his past to make it more
interesting). The first two-thirds of "The Twisted World of Marge Simpson"
were good as well, and I'm able to tolerate the last third for the sake of the
rest (although the lack of an ending really hurts; people who complain that
"Das Bus" lacked an ending should compare it to "Twisted World") My feelings
towards the other two stories mentioned don't descend into the deep hatred
shown by many on this newsgroup, as they both had excellent one-liners ("You're
in deep D'oh now", "In this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics!") and
gags scattered liberally throughout them. To me they're only below avearge,
nowhere near the depths of episodes such as "The Principal and the Pauper" or
"Dead Putting Society".

Actually, the last act of TTWOMS before the cut ending was what really appealed
to me. Fat Tony's ridiculous attempts to hide his activities were very amusing.
And who can forget the fight scene?

They were certainly better than Principal and The Pauper, but what's all this
sudden outburst of hatred towards Dead Putting Society shown by this newsgroup
recently? In "worst episodes 1-9", it seems that everyone disliked that
episode.

It's just considered the worst of Season 2. It shows that in those days, even
though most episodes were great, the occasional clunker would come out. Ranters
occasionally cite this one when complaining that "seezun 2 relly sux." DPS
didn't get a single "worst" vote in my "Best/Worst Episode Ever Poll" (nor did
too many other low-key non-favorites from Seasons 2-3, like "When Flanders
Failed" and "Bart's Dog Gets an F" (I liked both, giving them B's or
something).)

Crittenden wrote IMO, One great episode "And Maggie Makes Three". "The Twisted
World of Marge Simpson" had a good Acts I & II, but was hampered by an AWFUL
Act III. "The PTA Disbands" had it moments (The field trip, Moe reading the
attendence), but was hampered by a weak ending & a very off Lisa. And "Scenes
from the Class Struggle in Springfield" just sucked.
And on Ken Keeler, the only episodes of his I don't hate are "El Viaje de
Misterioso de Jomer" (Mainly for the animation part, otherwise the episode is
just another marriage in trouble story) and "The Brother from Another Series"
(which is only average). "A Star is Burns", "Two Bad Neighbors" "The Thing and
I (THOH VII)" & "The Principal and the Pauper"
all are awful.

Not me. Do you have one of those brain erasers? (from MIB, not "Lisa the
Skeptic")

*I* don't hate DPS. It's not exemplary, but it's not bad.
And what's this about "Scenes...?" I liked that one.

>Jennifer Crittenden quit writing for The Simpsons to work on Seinfeld?
Well, she started to work for "Seinfeld" almost right after the last
Crittenden-written "Simpsons" aired. To me, that suggests she moved right
from one to the other.
Aside from last Thursday's show (the one with the rickshaw, right?) what
other "Seinfeld" eps has Crittenden written? All the recent "Seinfeld"
episodes have been pretty good in my opinion, so I wonder if Crittenden's
writng style was just a better fit on the NBC show than over here on "The
Simpsons." Sometimes, just being a good writer isn't enough; you also have
to be in sync with what the rest of the show is doing.

She wrote "And Maggie Makes Three," "The PTA Disbands," "Scenes From the
Class Struggle in Springfield," and "The Twisted World of Marge Simpson."
She is often considered to be one of the worst Simpsons writers.
