In the Itchy and Scratchy movie episode, when Lisa asks Homer how he would
have felt if he missed an event as historical and generation-defining as
the I&S movie, Homer flashes back to the day of Neil Armstrong's Moon
walk -- Grandpa's watching but Homer's listening to his stereo earphones.
What is that catchy little tune young Homer is singing? It goes something
like "Yummy yummy, I got love in my tummy..." Who sang it and what's the
title?

1910 Fruitgum Company, it's called "Yummy, yummy". A favorite of mine in
when I was about 7, along with "Simon Sez".

Isn't the full lyric, "Yummy yummy yummy I got love in my tummy and I feel like
loving you"? Could this be the original lyric or were they making fun? I
think it's a funny image, if you think about it.

Amazingly enough, it's called "Yummy Yummy Yummy" by Ohio Express. The
song was one of *the* quitessential bubble-gum rock songs of the
60's/70's. I'm sure it's on some compilation CD (try Rhino Records).

It is the original lyric. This was voted second worst song ever written
in Dave Barry's "Bad Song Contest".

And of course, the "winnner" of that contest, "Macarthur Park", made an
appearance in "Lisa the Beauty Queen."

(Not to mention the character "Macarthur Parker" in "A Fish Called Selma")

The first time I ever heard "Yummy Yummy Yummy I Got Love in My Tummy"
(performed by our beloved Homer during the moon landing), it was on
Monty Python's Flying Circus. The song was so ridiculous that I
assumed it was a Python-compossed song. Imagine my surprise to learn
that not only was it a "real" song, it had been a hit! (shudder)
I've heard it on "classic" radio several times since then.
And in a Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode I saw a while back, a
mad scientist is cutting open the chest/abdomen of a patient, and Crow
says "Hey, whaddya know? This man's got love in his tummy!"

Classic!
