LeBron James To Produce Documentary Series 'Shut Up and Dribble' For Showtime

Now he's a filmmaker!

LeBron James, or King James as he's known on the NBA hard courts, has
been all over the news lately, what with his political pontifications
and his rampant do-goodery.

Now, the new Los Angeles Lakers basketball player is going to produce a
documentary series about the role of athletes in society. The show, to
be titled “Shut Up and Dribble,” will include Maverick Carter and
Gotham Chopra.

Showtime said the show will be “a powerful inside look at the changing
role of athletes in our fraught cultural and political environment."
The three-part series will premiere in October.

The title is taken from a comment by conservative talk show host Laura
Ingraham, who dismissively told James to "shut up and dribble" after he
and other NBA players said they would not visit the White House.

“The controversy serves as a prologue to the series as it chronicles
the modern history of the NBA and its players, starting with the 1976
merger of the freewheeling ABA and the more conventional NBA of today,”
Showtime executives said in a statement. “The league soon became an
incubator for many of its top athletes to grow their brands beyond the
court, becoming powerful players in commerce and fashion and
transcending the game to become cultural icons.”

James has been ramping up his public feud with President Trump. He says
the president has used athletics and athletes — like the NFL anthem
debacle — to divide Americans. "I can't sit back and say nothing,"
James said in an interview that re-aired on CNN Friday night.

Trump was apparently watching. Just before midnight, he wrote on
Twitter: "Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on
television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn't easy to
do. I like Mike!"
