Ten Things I Hate
1: Blair Is Not An Idiot: Jim even pointed this out in the episode. There is
no way Blair could have completely hidden his identity, and even if he did,
anyone with a little determination and sufficient resources (remember Lee
"Ebola Boy" Brackett?) could figure out that Jim was John Doe Sentinel. Jim
went to the hospital in Switchman complaining about his senses, there are
records. If that didn't start Blair thinking about things, the Night Train
episode should have. Jim was so hurt by the objective description Blair
offered to ~destroy~ the thesis at that point. No, I believe, and put into my
Sparrowhawk Sandburg fanfic, that Blair would continue collecting data on Jim
for personal reference, but instead of a case study, would write the sentinel
thesis he would have done if he had never found Jim, keeping his fingers
crossed because it is an obscure subject. Just presenting the thesis would be
a problem, because once Blair gets his doctorate, there goes his official
excuse to hang around the station and work with Jim, which is why in my fanfic
he sets it aside and becomes a cop. Blair has to have been thinking about this
for some time, and it just bothers me that the Writers took the decision out of
his hands...he should have been at Jim's side by his choosing and of his own
free will.
2: Naomi Is Not A Witch: They made it pretty clear in Spare Parts that this
was out of character for her, that she doesn't meddle in her son's life, but
her basic distrust of the police and fear for Blair's life brought out her
inner Jewish Mama, and by the end of the episode, she was able to accept
Blair's new lifestyle. So who was the interfering old bat in this episode?
Naomi's evil twin? Taking his thesis and sending it to someone else showed a
woman who did not believe her son was a grown-up who could handle his own life,
who did not respect his privacy, who did not respect him period. I've met this
kind of woman, and she's not the type to be 'letting things go'. Mama knows
best, let Mama take care of it and for gods sakes don't try to make any
decisions on your own because you'll only screw it up without Mama there to
take care of you. Nope, this ain't Naomi. This woman wouldn't have left
Cascade after Spare Parts, not without her lone chick tucked firmly back under
her wing.
3: Jim Is Not An Idiot: Let's review. Switchman, his senses come back, he
wants them gone, Blair tells him he can't get rid of them but can learn
control, Jim accepts his senses. Flight, Blair might leave, Jim's senses start
to cut in and out, Jaguar makes his first appearance, tells Jim he must choose
his destiny, Jim accepts his senses. Warriors, Jim shoots security guard,
represses senses, needs them back to catch Incacha's killer, accepts his
senses. TSBYBS, media feeding frenzy, and Jim's talking about some kind of
meditation to turn the dials down and wanting things back the way they were
before the whole Sentinel thing? No. There's a thing called character
development. Moments of regret keyed to the underlying angst of those
gifted/cursed in regards to 'normal' people, okay, but not reacting to the same
situation the same way over and over again after three or four
years...Something Bad Happens=Get Rid Of Senses.
4: Zeller: Sure, he's a great bad guy, but for some reason I was laughing
during the bullpen shootout and I don't think that's what they were going for.
Plus that whole rapelling down the building-shoots at Jim-hits his rope and
falls to his death bit was a real groaner cliche.
5: Someone else mentioned this the first time around...after Blair's press
conference where he claimed his thesis was faked, he couldn't become a cop
because they couldn't trust him on the witness stand.
6: In this "You stepped on my toe so I'm sueing" culture of ours, I can't
believe that Sidney would release excerpts from a book he didn't have a
contract on. Again, illogical behavior just to drive the plot.
7: Adam Sandler as Blair? Please. Pauly Shore for physical appearance, Rob
Schnieder(sp? guy used to be on Saturday Night Live) for
energy/personality....and anyone else do a double take when they saw the ad for
Bruce Willis in The Sixth Sense?
8: The action/emotional storylines seemed disjointed, Jim was not talking to
Blair, then he'd go do casework, then Blair would be sad...yeah, like S2,
packing too much in one episode...
9: Speaking of S2 and more of a this season rant...Simon and Megan getting
shot was shown in Jim's visionquest in the Olmec sensory deprivation tank. so
Jim's a Sentinel who can talk to ghosts and see the future...in the comic books
they had to invent kryptonite because they made Superman too powerful and were
running out of plots. Jim's a Sentinel, they should leave it at that.
10: Naomi got off too light. I'm sorry, but if she had done this Jim and Blair
both should have read her the riot act, of course if Naomi was the kind of
woman capable of this she'd refuse to accept any blame because she was acting
in Blair's best interest and it was his own fault for keeping secrets from his
mommy. In which case Blair should take a cue from Jim and refuse to speak to
her for fifteen years...
Ten Things I Love
1: Blair leaves to meet Jim and Naomi asks, "It won't be too dangerous, will
it?" More the Naomi I know and love, accepting Blair's place on the fringes of
the police force but still concerned. ~Not~ treating him like a slightly
deranged three year old.
2: Naomi's greeting to Jim "Ooh you've been working out, give me another hug."
Copping a feel or feeling a cop. Gotta love Naomi.
3: Jim's reaction to the reporters. You could see the panic in his eyes, the
fear of being put in a fishbowl or a cage...gotta admit, except for the stuff
about getting rid of the senses, this is exactly how someone as emotionally
damaged as Jim would react in this situation. His two greatest fears, people
knowing that he's different and believeing if only for a second that Blair
betrayed him.
4: "So when are you going to start wearing tights and a cape?" Jim. Spandex.
Rafe, thank you for this *lovely* mental image. (wipes drool off the keyboard)
5: So you're a Sentinel, so what? Joel trying to let Jim know it isn't that
big a deal, he wonders why he didn't just tell everybody himself.
6: Megan and Blair. She's the one Blair talked to about Jim...now if she'd
just stop calling him Sandy.
7: The press confrence. Still choked me up.
8: Hospital scene. Jim stumbles through an apology. "it was just a book."
"It was your life..." Smarm smarm smarm smarm...jeez Jamie it's about time!
9: Classic Blairlines..."Is it just the acoustics in that room or does
everybody behind that desk automatically get loud?" and "I'm Still not cutting
my hair." Nice Switchman reference.
10: Maybe I've been reading too much Blair Bashing H/C fanfic, but that last
scene where Megan's in a sling, Simon's in a wheelchair, and Jim has a cane,
while Blair stands unscathed, I find that vaguely amusing.
That's it for TSBYBS, please excuse any minor incoherencies or
mistypings...composed at 2am and typed in a hurry.
Coming soon(after they show it) My problems with S2 P2--or I'm fine, what is
WRONG with you?

Honey, not only did I do a "double take" I practically was forced to watch the
damn commercial by my Hubby -- A closet TS fan (yes, the cop). Who was
actually 'bouncing' in excitement about the movie! Gee, I haven't seen him
this excited about a movie since Braveheart came out! <g> Gee I know what
movie we'll be going to see soon.

Bare with me please! This is the first time I have ever posted to a newsgroup,
so please forgive any mistakes. You mentioned in your post that you write
fanfiction.
>Just presenting the thesis would be
>a problem, because once Blair gets his doctorate, there goes his official
>excuse to hang around the station and work with Jim, which is why in my
>fanfic
Do you have a web site I can visit it to read some of it? I adore the idea of
Blair becoming a cop.
In addition I like Naomi too. But I really thought that her interferring was
completely in character with her. As much as she wants to be a mom " that lets
go", she has not succeeded.

Nope, no personal website, I'm a functional computer illiterate. <g> I've been
posting my first awkward attempts at fanfic--Sparrowhawk Sandburg--here on the
newsgroup. But the first story of that series and two other shorts are
archived at Cascade Library http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Lot/5508
I'm fighting my way through writing what seems to be the last Sparrowhawk
Sandburg, and then I'll archive the other four Sparrowhawk stories together,
then I'm going to take a shot at regular canon characters fanfic.
>Bare with me please!
If it's all the same I believe I'll stay dressed while I read your post. ;)
Trilly-creature of contradictions
oops! I sure did use the wrong spelling. Sorry. By all means keep your clothes
on.
