Those interested should check out the latest issue of CINESCAPE!
There's a neat 2-page article on ULTRAMAN TIGA (in the TV section),
and the story behind how 4Kids stuck to its guns in selling the show.
There are a few errors, but at least the article is very favorable to
the show!

I'll be away on vacation until next week, but until then, have a safe
and Happy New Year!

Do you think? I know there are folks in AMM who dig the show (and I've
never actually seen it), but it sounds like they really butchered it up.
They talk about completely re-writing it so it "makes sense." Where's
the fun in that? That's half the fun with anime and kauju eiga...trying
to make sense of the story.

I have the issue too and read the article.I understand trying to change the
storylines for a US audience but some of the oneliners are pretty bad.

Perhaps they're thinking of TNT's Ultra 7. No, the Tiga stories are
fairly true to the originals, with relatively minor changes (e.g. the
Spark Lens becomes the Torch of Tiga). And, yes, there ARE some pitiful
one-liners (e.g., somebody compared Golza to Munakata's mother-in-law,
which completely ruins the potential romance between him and Iruma), but
at least you don't have everybody talking about insidious aliens ...

I hate to disagree with you, especially as I've never seen the show
myself. I just quote the story in Cinescape 68, page 69. Here's what
Norman Grossfeld, CEO of 4Kids, says in the article:

"Some shows are reedited completely, or we reformat the storylines to
straighten out the story from our perspective. By the time you're done
looking at the show, you've got a completely new script. It's not just
an adaptation of the Japanese script, but a retought storyline where
sometimes we invent whole plotlines."
