He was also on a short-lived variety show called "Fridays" that was on about 15 years ago.
It was like a Saturday Night Live, only it was on Friday nites and on another network
(ABC, I think). He played a character called Mr. Dick or something like that. I think
he smoked a pipe and was like a poor-man's Hugh Hefner type guy. Actually, when Kramer
gets into his chic-suave mode on Seinfeld, he's acting a lot like the "Fridays" character.

"Fridays" was the show with Nat E. Dred, the Rasta Gourmet. The guy with the ganja, if
you remember that.

He also played a character that was either a pharmasist or a drug adddict
that was always saying "TAKE A PILL" when asked almost any question.

The pharmacist was played by Mark Blankfield; Melanie Chartoff did the news;
Michael Richards, Darrow Igus, Maryedith Burrell, Bruce Mahler, Brandis Kemp.
Oh, and some guy named Larry David - wonder whatever happened to him? ;)

Yeah, MR played a Lurch-like character in the classic Transylvania 6-5000.
There is a really funny scene where he is whistling the song (pennsylvania
6-5000), and then he answers the phone and says, "Transylvania 6-5-0-0-0!"
Good movie. Jeff Goldblum is in it too.

I personally can recall seeing Kramer in an early episode of CHEERS.

In the episode Kramer comes to the bar with the intentions of
collecting a bet from Sam Malone who was supposed to have married
someone famous by midnight on the day that hw arrives at the bar.

Can anyone clarify this?

I remember the Cheers episode -- Sam was supposed to marry Jacqueline
Bisset by midnight. But I didn't remember that it was Kramer. Were
you looking for clarification that it was Kramer or more details about
the bet he had with Sam? For some reason, I seem to remember that
episode pretty well (other than the face of the person who tried to
collect). Sam didn't have to pay off, by the way.

He was supposed to marry Jacqueline Bisset.

If you go farther back you might remember Kramer (Michael Richards) from
the sketch show "Fridays" back in 1980. The show also featured Larry
David, co-creator of "Seinfeld"
I'll never forget his sketch where Richards is a nut hassling a Highway
Patrolman. "Catch any speeders?"
:-)

Here's a Michael Richards filmography from the Internet movie database
(http://us.imdb.com/):

1.Unstrung Heroes (1995) .... Uncle Danny Lidz
2.Airheads (1994) .... Doug Beech
3.Coneheads (1993) .... Motel Clerk
4.So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993) .... Obit Writer

I'm sorry to be redundant if this has already been mentioned, but he was
in an early episode of Cheers.

In this episode, Michael Richards plays a man who returns to Cheers in
order to claim his ownership of the bar. It seems as though some years
ago Sammy (in a fit of drunkenness) bet Kramer that he would marry
Jacqueline Bisset before a certain day (the day that Kramer comes to
take the bar), and if he hadn't done so, Kramer would get the bar. It
ended up that Sammy was going to marry some lady whose name is
Jacqueline Bisset, but wasn't *the* Jacqueline Bisset. Kramer then
conceded the bet, but for his problems, same gave him a green olive.

including a little boy playing soldiers in the mud outside of his house.
A number of people from that show have played small parts on Seinfeld;
Larry David was also from that show and probably chose Michael Richards
when the concept of Seinfeld began because he reminded him of his real

know that this is hard to believe but I saw it 2 years ago while
channel surfing on a kind of regis & Kathie Lee show that had the

A long, long time ago, Michael Richards was one of the cast members on a
show called "Fridays" which was a SNL rip-off on ABC. His best
character was a Jamaican cook (do we eat it? No, we smoke it!). Am I
showing some serious age, or does anyone else remember this (it was
late 70s I think)?

Yes. "Fridays" ran from 80-82, and, coincidentally enough, the cast
included Michael Richards _and_ Larry David.

I recently saw Michael Richards on Night Court. He played crazy bum
who thought he was invisible. He kept picking up objects and
expecting people around him to be scared of the floating object.
Almost Kramer-like.

He was also apparently in the Saturday Night Live clone "Fridays"
which aired on ABC in the early 80's

The Jamaican cook was played by Daryl Igus (the spelling may be off),
who was also on SQUARE ONE and played a cab driver in CROSSING DELANCEY,

I just saw him last week in a movie called "Carbon Copy", starring George
Segal. It was a small part, his hair was slicked back, he must have been
in his early twenties, he made an impression. FYI, the other lead
(playing Segal's long-lost son, believe it or not) was Denzel Washington.
It was his first film (even pre-dates tv-series St. Elsewhere).

in that Cheech & Chong movie, where they go after Pee Wee Herman "The

That film would be "Nice Dreams." I watched it a few weeks

Called "Fridays."

Yeah, (some of) it was too funny. "Kramer" played "The Emaciated
Man": a kind of pre-Kramer (doofus without the hipster) character.
You can really see some of his physical comedy at it's very beginning.

I also remember the "Matzoi" skit-- a Jewish Martial Arts Show. The
two Matzoi Rabbis would break "boards" made out of Matzah and end the
show saying "Live and Be Well."

If I'm not mistaken, Kramer was on a show called Fridays back in the

I think this show was on in the early 80's instead of the mid-70's, but
Michael Richards was indeed on that show. As you say...it was a Saturday
Night Live clone that I believe ABC put on trying to capture the SNL viewers
a night earlier after seeing the sucess of SNL. It only lasted a season or
two, because in the end, it just wasn't funny enough.

The show was called "Fridays" and it was on sometime during 1978-81.
Michael Richards (Kramer) really stole the show, they would do skits
with just Kramer running around a clothing store like a nut, or playing
with toy soldiers. I remember the toy soldier scene well, he had a army
helmet on and he would get low to the ground and fight with the
soldiers. He would make voices and set them on fire. I thought the show
was funny!( but I was a young kid at the time)...hope this helps

Michael Richards was also part of the ensemble cast on the ABC show
Fridays! in the early 80's along with Melanie Chartoff and some others.
The show was a Saturday Night Live clone but wasn't too funny.

I do recall seeing a clip of the show from some Andy Kaufman memorial
special which aired only a few years ago... the point being that
Richards, Kaufman and two girls were in this bit and Kaufman was
supposed to walk into this resteraunt where they were sitting, as a
drunk. Instead, Kaufman sits down, and with a straight face, he just
says, "I can't do this." The girls tried to ad-lib, Kramer just
munched on some pretzels, but when they saw that he was serious, one
of the girls punched him in the arm, and Kramer, still munching on
those pretzels, with a totally blank look on his face, threw a glass
of water in Kaufman's face. Priceless. The director ended up running
onto the stage and had a fist fight with Kaufman, all on live TV. I
remember this all, because I was going to tape a show, and this
pre-empted it. It was really funny, no doubt funnier than whatever I
was going to tape!

the recognition they deserve.

Kramer was scary weird on this show. (FRIDAYS_ABC)
He had this wicked hirsuite biker character, who would come out and
abuse the audience, verbally. Very confrontational, I was like 12, but
it felt very strange. Like Andy Kaufman strange. The audience did not
respond favorably, it became like Don Rickles on bad acid.
When I saw him again as KRAMER I thought, there's no way this guy will
be able to maintain this sit-com gig, but, he did, and he made it one of
TV's ALL-TIME greatest sides, much akin to Ed Norton.

After Fridays, Michael Richards also did a very forgettable movie with
Gene Wilder, I think, called Transylvania 6-5000.

Also, last week on Lost on Earth, the puppet aliens decided that
Kramer/Richards was from their planet and they referred to him as
"Prince Kramer."

Michael Richards also played Stanley Spadowski, the custodian in the movie UHF.
