What was the quote that George's 'pretentious' girlfriend quoted (before
he said that she was pretentious). Was it real person she was quoting?
Something about popenjop and mumbo jumbo?

Matthew Bastin writes:

That question makes me wish I had a filing system for my tapes. I think it
was popinjay. But I can't remember the rest of it. I don't *think* I
recognized it ( which would prove nothing, anyway) but I would sure like to
see more of it. What really set him off. I think was the talk about papier
mache. I note that the American Heritage Dictionary allows the
pronunciation she used.

On a related note: when will people realize that silicon is an element and
silicone is a plastic?

"Whoso belongs only to his age reverences only its popinjays and mumbo
jumbos."
Thomas Carlyle, 1864.

Thomas Carlyle is real (1795-1881) and is eminently quotable. i do not know
whether or not this is an actual Carlyle quote.

The quote your are referrring to is from the 3rd season The Truth. It was made
by Patrice the pretentious , IRS related person, who was going to help Jerry
with his IRS audit before George told her THE TRUTH.

above is the correct quote from the show.

the actual Carlyle quote is from "On Boswell's Life of Johnson" (1832):
"Whoso belongs only to his own age, and reverences only its gilt Popinjays or
soot-smeared Mumbojumbos, must needs die with it."
