I thought it more of a Wayne's World thing with product endorsments. It was
WAY too blatant to be taken seriously. I think Seinfeld is just having some
fun with it's sponsors. It was a funny scene, especially when Elaine offered
the closet-specialist a Snapple out of Jerry's fridge, without a second
thought, like she lived there or something.

I don't know if it's just you, Amy, but I don't think they were plugging
Snapple. I thought that it was just another senseless part of the
script, just like Elaine "not getting it" when Jerry buzzed her up. That
scene with Jerry opening and closing the refrigerator door like that
was hilarious. It's stuff like that that keeps the show on track.

I think Snapple is part of that New York thing -- like the Yoo-Hoo in the
bubble boy episode. When I worked in DC, I used to listen to Howard Stern
(based in NY) and he used to plug Snapple relentlessly.

Good day good people!

Is it just me, or were they BLATANTLY plugging Snapple beverages on last
night's (Nov.11) program? Every time the refrigerator was opened, it was
offered. I think it seemed kind of obvious that they wre getting some money
out of this deal in one way or another. Personally, I've never specifically
offered anyone "Snapple," just a cold drink. Just my input...

Kind of a side note: does anyone know the political affiliations of
the Snapple company? I've heard contradictory stories, like it's
owned by right-to-life extremists, or it's owned by a very PC-ish
crowd. Anyone know anything, besides the fact that they make
extremely lame commercials with Ivan Lendl?

What does this
mean? IBM PC computer users (vs. Apple (rhymes with Snapple) Mac users?)
Sorry for being ignorant - but these are the two main political factions
here in Silicon Valley! :-)

I'm hoping we learn something about Snapple politics. I'm undecided on
the drinks. It's becoming a fake, celebrity promoted fad all across the
country now, and that makes me a bit wary of it. Which is what makes
the blatant references on Seinfeld so brilliant!

Also, what's that sediment at the bottom of the Raspberry Iced Tea?
Yeah sure, they say "shake before opening" so you don't see the stuff.
Hey, I ain't shakin' until they learn to filter out the fake tea leaf
residue. All natural ingredients? After hearing Howard Stern say that
I kinda doubt it.
Next time you're in sunny Cal, try a refreshing Calistoga Sparkling
Mineral Water, or a Crystal Geyser Juice Squeezer.(No added sweeteners!)

Enough about beverages, I'm thirsty ...

Howard still does, and for good reason (Snapple is actually quite good- esp.
the Raspberry Iced Tea!). But Snapple isn't just a "NY thing" anymore. I've
found it sold in stores and quite popular in other areas along the east coast
that aren't near NY. I'm not sure if Snapple is available in other regions
of the country though.

I suspect this comes from the fact that one of their biggest (literally and
figuratively) spokespeople is Rush Limbaugh. If you listen to his radio
show, you'll here countless ads for Snapple most with Rush doing the
testimonial. I'm pretty sure Rush is not connected to the company in any
way other than being a satisfied customer who gladly accepts their
sponsorship. He started talking about it on the air even before they became
an official sponsor of his.

I think Howard Stern also talks it up quite a bit though I don't listen to
his show too often. He's hardly the PC-ish type.

At any rate, you're can probably assume that the political affiliations of
the company's executives are nowhere near as important to them as the sale
of their product.

Forget Snapple plugs! What about the Blossom plugs? Everytime Jerry and
George are at NBC somebody makes a reference to Blossom, or we see the big
Blossom poster on the wall in the waiting room. George also mentioned it
when he was in the apartment of the head NBC exec guy (can't remember
his name offhand).
This kind of thing just kills me!

I live in Denver and I've never heard of Snapple. I mean, I guessed it was
a drink, but it's not sold here.

But then, Colorado is the only state I've ever been in which doesn't have
Hostess HoHos. You can get any other Hostess product - DingDongs, all the
other inferior snacks - but NO HoHos at all! I have to get friends to mail
me boxes, or stock up whenever I'm on a business trip... (two months ago I
was in California and bought a couple cases, but I ran out last week...
fortunately a friend is going to DisneyLand later this month so I'll be
restocked soon)

I live in South Florida, and a vituperous radio talk show host
named Neil Rogers has been drinking (and plugging) Snapple for
quite sometime.

I thought it was a piss every time someone offered Snapple.
In fact, I thought the whole episode was hysterical. Each
one is getting funnier, if that's possible.

Athough I missed the epsiode, I would guess that this is probably similar
to the references to Yoo-Hoo and Drake's Coffee Cake that appeared in
earlier episodes. All three of these products are sort of "traditions" in
NYC, but (except for maybe Yoo-Hoo) aren't that well known outside of the
NYC area. Personally, I'd never heard of Drake's until the Seinfeld
episode that had references to it, and it wasn't until a friend who'd been
to NYC pointed out to me the popularity of Drake's in the city that I
finally got the joke. Same thing with Snapple - it just so happens that I
was in NYC two weeks ago and saw Snapple drinks all over the place, but if
that wasn't the case, the joke would be totally lost on me.

On a related note: as a souvenir of my visit to NYC, I brought an office
mate and fellow Seinfeld fanatic a bottle of Yoo-Hoo and a Drake's Coffee
Cake. No-one else in the office got it, but he was practically ROFL.

Oh, yes, and for those who've never tried it: Snapple iced tea is
wonderful. I should've brought some back to Canada...

Just bought a case of it from Price Club (warehouse discount store) here in Arizona.
In fact, as I left the stack of Snapple cases, I overheard a lady criticizing
her husband, saying "You just want to buy it because Seinfeld drinks it."
Looks like Jerry has helped pick up Snapple sales nationwide.
