In 'The Pilot', when people are auditioning, an Elaine hopeful is about
to read her lines, when Jerry jumps in to read with her. The two have a
great exchange of lines, which I don't think is in the scripts they are
about to read. It was a very typical 'Seinfeld' conversation. I can't
understand why she didn't get the part.
Any theories ?

Anyway, my question : Is Mariska playing that character ? (I did not
recall any other possibilities in that episode.) I know she used to
have much longer hair (in ER for example) than she does now (in Law &
Order: SVU), but she also seemed taller/thinner. Was that her ?

From season 2's _The Deal_, "What was that look?"

Too attractive for the role of Elaine?
George's vote, "next!", counted?

Here's the imdb entry:

"Seinfeld" (1990) playing "Melissa Shannon" in episode: "The Pilot"
(episode # 4.23) 20 May 1993

Are you saying, 'yes', that was Mariska ? I *know* she was in the episode,
just not sure which character.

Thanks,
Dave

The script suggests it was (in all honesty, I can't place her face):

from <http://membres.lycos.fr/tnguym/Scripts/ThePilot.html>:

(the casting director enters with a beautiful actress)
CASTING DIRECTOR: This is Melissa Shannon.
MELISSA: Hi.
ALL: Hi. How you doing.
CASTING DIRECTOR: Melissa is reading for Elaine.
MELISSA: It's like a bald convention out there! (she saw George) Sorry. I, uh,
made a faux pas.
JERRY: No you didn't. He knows he's bald.
MELISSA: So how about that guy wearing sweat pants? I mean did he do that for
the part or does he walk around like that? (Jerry approves with a nod, George
drops his notepad on the coffee table)
CASTING DIRECTOR: O.K. Shall we start? (Melissa and the casting director sit
down)
JERRY: (getting up) Uh, you know what? I'll read with her.
MELISSA: Oh, great.
(the casting director leaves the chair to Jerry. Jerry sits in front of Melissa
and slides the chair very close to her)

Yeh, what was the deal with George saying "Thank you! Thank you very
much..." to the woman.
Maybe there was too much chemistry between Jerry and her and George
thought that it might be a distraction in the success of the show(?)

No, she had just insulted George by stating there was a bald-convention
going on outside the office...

Mariska Hargitay is the daughter of Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay. She
was in the car with her mother when she was killed.

Here's some bio. Kudos to her for making it in this industry.

Good riddance.

Car? I thought Jayne Mansfield died because her large breasts choked
her.
