Elaine's Vegetarianism?

Speaking of inconsistencies, this one is pretty blatant: in Episode 27,
"The Stranded," where Elaine has that argument with George's fur-sporting
inamorata, she announces that she is, indeed, a vegetarian. But we all
know she's not averse to eating our feathered friends--watch her drooling
for Poppie's duck, ("I love duck!" The Couch), or inhaling chicken
infested with poppy seeds, ("just pick a glass, Mrs. Seinfeld, pick a
glass!"), and even eyeing a Monk's turkey club after being the target of
racism, (The Wizard). Perhaps birds aren't "meat" for our little Lainey.

Alright Sir, what about the way she readily devoured Holly's mutton,
("Thanks for Mutton!")? Indeed, her diet consists exclusively of a wide
assortment of thinly sliced meats when she's trapped in her apartment,
(The Slicer) and thus completely dependent upon Kramer's latest brain
child.

Is it possible that Elaine lied about her vegetarianism to save herself
from the age-old fur-lover's trump card?

("Is it possible I'm not as attractive as I think I am?"
"Anything's possible.")

Sydney.

Of course another possibility is that she simply stopped being a
vegggie. I first thought this in the episode where Kramer had the
fighting cock (rooster) and she not only went to the fight, but never
said a word against it. Not something you'd expect from a veggie. Note
also that by the time Puddy had his fur coat, she didn't care about
that either ("Who has the time anymore?")

A most sponge-worthy observation, Frederick. Thank you.

My guess is she lied. The characters on this show have been known to do that.

\My guess id it's just an inconsistency of the show included because it fit
the current episode. (Take Kramer's abthing habits for example: He gets
asked something about taking showers and replies "I only take baths" but in
later episodes there is the low water pressure episode and the making salad
in the shower episode.)

Whatever works for the episode at hand. They aren't real people, they don't
have to be consistent.

Ys, but she also ate a piece of chicken with poppy seeds on it. If I'm
not mistaken, Kramer offered it to her.

Well, they aren't "red meat" anyway. Some people avoid red meat for
health reasons. This I can understand. it's the ones who won't eat
meat because of the "poor little animals that have to die" that I find
to be a mystery.

Huh? Oh. Yeah. The "age old fur-lover's trump card"? Huh?

I doubt it. It seems that Elaine ate meat when there was no
alternative. Even vegetarians, when faced with the choice of eating
meat or starving, will choose to eat the meat.

Wasn't the running joke while Elaine was dating Puddy that he only took
her to eat at Arby's? Not too many veggie dishes there, unless she only
curly fries...

Ya, sure, if the choice is actual starvation or eating meat the choice is
obvious. But since when has someone in the middle of NYC faced that choice.
I think that Elaine--if a true vegatarian--always had a choice..stay hungry
and eat later or find something else. I don't think the show portrayed
her as only eating meat when there was no alternative. And I think for a
true vegetarian there is always an alternative. I'm not a veggie, though,
so I don't know. Any of "you people" care to take a crack at it? (I know,
that's just inviting trolling fake vegetarians.)

Actually, that's a good point . . . in "The Auto Dealership," when discussing
their "celebration dinner" at Arby's, Elaine specifically said, "I had the
roast beef."

Well, that explains the way you treat people. Don't you believe in every
creature's right, from the moment it is born, to live? I mean, you wouldn't
eat David H, would you (I hope I'm right)? So why would you eat a cow that
hasn't done anything wrong except being tastey? Veggies prove the "survive"
theory is redicules. They are usually healthier than non-veggies.

Beautifully said!

And, additionally, it's quite possible that over 9 years Elaine's
lifestyle might have changed, right? I mean I was a vegan for three
years, but I gave that up for various reasons. Elaine Benes, the
character, can certainly be a veggie in one episode and then eat a big
roast beef samwich a few years down the road!

Again, has the distinction been made between 'meat' and 'poultry'?

The way I treat people? I'm sorry. Do you know me? What do you know
about the way I treat people?

I believe that man has the right to 'utilize' whatever he finds on this
planet. I do not believe the lesser creatures have the same rights as
mankind. I suppose if a chicken has a consciousness or awareness, and
is able to communicate this to people, then the situation may be
different.

I mean, you wouldn't

I suppose that sin alone is what makes the cow become food. If we
weren't meant to eat them, they wouldn't taste so good. Natural
selection.

Whatever. Take a look at the teeth in your mouth, then come back here
and tell me if human's were meant to be meat eaters or not.

And what reasons were those, may I ask? If it was because you cared
about animals that seems a bit flaky to just abandon your principles and
increase the demand by an additional mouth for leading animals to the
slaughterhouse where they are murdered(?). If it is for health reasons
then what new facts did you learn to change your mind. I suppose it is
possible you have anemia and the doctor prescribed meat. Just wondering...

Actually, if I were hungry enough, I believe I WOULD consume DAVIDH (**888*).

And I've yet to meet a long term surviving vegan. Everyone goes through the
requisite freshman year of college
anti-everything-our-parents-taught/us-fuck-the-establishment phase, and you
know what? Reason reigns and we get over it and get a real cause. I'd love to
video these fur-and-meat protests and show them to the demonstrators in 5
years. I'd be in horror if someone did that to me.

No, you're not 'just wondering'. if you were just wondering, you
wouldn't have used the words slaughter and murder. You have your own
little not-so-hidden agenda there, don't you?

FYI, I was "just wondering" how a vegan could abandon their principles
if they truly believed in what they were doing. The words "slaughter" and
"murder" were used (notice there was a "?" after "murder") because those
were words I figured a former vegan could identify with. I have no "not-
so-hidden agenda"--my only agenda was to become enlightened as to how a
vegan decided to take his place back in the realm of omnivores. I do eat
what I want and that includes lots of foods that were formerly breathing.
