George Costanzo

In Germay and Austria we can see "Seinfeld" in a dubbed version.
Consistently, George's name is pronounced "Costanzo" instead of
"Costanza".

Any theories that would explain this? ?

No offence to german Seinfeld viewers, but I can't understand how you can
dub a show like Seinfeld, that is such based on the dialogue, it's almost a
crime to the actors and the writers if you ask me. I would rather read the
scripts.

Makes you wonder how they can translate dialog such as Georges's old
gym teacher calling him " CANT STAND'YA" so that it still makes sense
in german or french or whatever.(The library)

In German (and Austrian) commercial television, practically all foreign
movies and sitcoms are dubbed, even Monthy Python.

I would imagine that Seinfeld loses some of its humor when translated to
ANY other language. How could it be as funny in German or Spanish when
some of the funniest parts come from the way they manipulate the English
language?

Remember the difference in cultures, and maybe it is easier to say Costanzo
in German than Costanza.

no...that's not true. both is easy. this is just a strange
dubbing-error. but it does not occur in *every* episode.

Makes me think of the Norwegian subtitling of Seinfeld episodes - As far as I

nochmalschenker means re-gifter! (Elaine's friend in The Label Maker is
a re-gifter) Although you made that word up we can trace it back to
something seinfeldian ... spooky!
