Ever seen a dubbed "Seinfeld"?

Was in Montreal over the weekend, where I noted that "Seinfeld" is shown in
English on the Global Network (there were even ads in the Metro for it as part
of Global's schedule). But from glancing at the Montreal Gazette TV section, I
don't believe the series runs in French--a bit of a surprise for me, because I
know many U.S. sitcoms have been dubbed and shown in French Canada (with
modified titles in some cases; for example "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was
broadcast as "Mary's Problems").
I know "Seinfeld" is shown in Australia and Israel in English, and in "The
Seinfeld Universe" it was said the series is carried in France and Norway. I'm
wondering if anyone on this newsgroup has ever seen a dubbed episode. Tell us
about the experience. Were the voices consistent with the characters? Was it
especially jarring?

I've watched one or two dubbed Seinfeld episode. But they were
extremely irritating. Seinfeld has gote a really high-pitched voice
which gets annoying real fast. The other voices are ok, and sound a
bit like their american counterpart. However, it's the translation
that suffers. Having seen the original versions of the episodes
countless time, I could see how much jokes had to be taken out of the
dialog to get a good sync. I wish I could come up with a good exemple,
but I can't.

Seinfield was dubbed last year in french. It lasted about 6 month. I
too had seen all the Seinfield episode many time and i was shock by
the crappyness of the translation. Jerry's jokes in french are not
appropriate.

In the NBC Dateline interview Jerry said something like "Humor is a
different thing in every country. For example they hate me in Germany."
This made me sad, because it's not that people hate him here but the
show just isn't popular. And why is that so? Because of strange German
dub voices (Jerry's voice is really tired and high-pitched, very
annoying), no advertising for the series whatsoever and a stupid
translation that skips 50% of the jokes. Also they are airing Seinfeld
at 1:00 am at night monday - thursday. If I wouldn't get the original
english version of Seinfeld via satellite from the British station Sky
One I wouldn't be a Seinfeld fan either.
You are so lucky in America! Stop whining about the finale. At least you
have all the episodes you want.

I watch Seinfeld on Swedish, Norwegian and Danish (Canal+) Television
(different seasons). They are of course all in English. None of the (too
many) german stations i can see, but not understand, have Seinfeld.

In Norway the show is telecast unaltered except for Norwegian subtitles. I
don't know about France.

I saw it in France where it runs on cable TV both in French and English (Same
Sein-channel, different Sein-time). Though the voices are fairly consistent with
the characters I think, there's nothing like seeing the show in its original
language. The difference is probably most noteworthy in the early seasons with the
stand-up bits where some jokes -though adapted for french listeners- do not
translate well sometimes. They've actually shown a (tiny) bit of Seinfeld in French
on the pre-finale access hollywood on NBC to mention that not only the
English-speaking countries will miss the show...

Seinfeld is shown over here in Germany. I've seen (and taped) nearly every
episode. But the show has just startet (the last Episode was where Jerry,
George and Elaine meet Elaine's Father, and Jerry ruins his new very
expensive Leather jacket) and is shown at 1 am.
Not a very good time, but a good thing is, that it's on EVERY DAY and not
once a week.
I've never seen a English Seinfeld episode, only Jerry's apperance on the
Tonight Show.
I can say that Jerrys German voice is quite similar to his original. I've
also seen some short clips on Seinfeld.com
so I can say Kramer an Elaine sound nearly the same in German. Only George's
voice is a bit different.
The typical problem is of coarse that some jokes that work in English don't
work in another Language, so they have to change it.

that go in German? Stecken ... ?
I think the German versions would be great hits in the colleges across

I can give you tapes with dubbed german Seinfeld episodes. All I would
ask for is that you give me original/english Seinfeld episodes in
return.

Maybe I get this question wrong but of coarse the actors are the same only
the dialoges are dubbed into german.
Don't ask of the names of the German people who dub the special characters.
I don't now, really. All I can say is that these are no famous actors,
though I heard this voices before, so they must be famous "dubbers".

Mostly all english proverbs and play-with-words don't work. (logicaly).
I don't have a special joke now, but if I hear, or see something I can post
that.

Stecken is quite right, but not in a sock, but onto your hat.
It would be "Du kannst dir deine Entschuldigungen an den Hut stecken".
There are some varieties. It also could be, stick into your ass, which is
the more colloqial (and more offensive) version or it could also be
..."sonstwohin stecken", which wo be "stick your sorries somewehere".

You think ? Why ? I heard to most english speaking people german sounds very
funny.
Is ist studied often in the US ? We are "forced" to learn english, which is
not a bad thing to me, coarse I like this language.
