That was Martin Short on (I believe) Night School Hi-Q.
"Although I have a powerful command of the English language, I have been
deemed totally illiterate by my teachers. I believe that France is
nestled snugly between New Zealand and Australia, and that my morning
glass of milk comes from cats."

The other one is the SCTV after-school special starring Ed Grimley "The
Fella who Just Couldn't Wait for Christmas."

I can't wait for his talk show. I, Martin Short, have a talk show. Too
bad he won't be competing for a coveted Ace award.

My personal favorite Ed Grimley moment happened not on SCTV, but on SNL.
Howard Cosell (the guest host that week) played Ed's Uncle (?) who came to
visit him in the hospital. Seeing Howard dressed up like Ed with the hair
standing up in the front and saying in his monotone voice "I must say" brings
me to tears.

Actually, that was Laurence Orbach in Half-Wits. That was the best game
show of the bunch.
I think I remember the Orbach character reprisal in the 84'-'85 season of
Saturday Night Live but am not sure which sketch (anybody know which one?).

"I have a lovely wife and two kids named Frank...."
Darren Peele, Half-Wits contestant

Yes, it was Half Wits, and the Laurence Orbach character was reprised at
least twice on SNL -- in the Synchronized Swimming sketch and also in
The Guy Who Didn't Know How to Climb the Stairs Sketch.

"I would like to be a professional hockey player, or perhaps a circuit
court judge."

I forgot all about the synchronized swimming sketch. Christopher Guest (his
coach) managed to reprise his own role in Waiting For Guffman.

Yup. "No more 'Shakespeare in the Park', thank you very much." And the classic
motivation line he gave to Short: "I know you! I know you!"

Harry Shearer (Derek Smalls in Spinal Tap) was also Short's teammate.
