Well, in the context of the mention on SCTV news, I think the gag is, Earl's
too stupid to pronounce his own name correctly? Certainly in my home state,
which SCTV reminds me deeply of, mispronunciations of words by the majority
of the populace is the norm.
Most Pittsburgers call North Versailles "North Ver-sails". In Erie, it was
common to pronounce "bubba" as "boo-bah". Everything gets an "ie" at the
end: rollie coaster, santie claus...And a local grocer advertised "brussel's
prouts" for sale...
Just my observation...
Floyd then asks, "don't you mean the MEWS?"

This thread reminds me of Andrea Martin's Tawny Beaver character.

Funny you should say that. I was trying to find a .wav file of Bobby Bitman
yelling "How are ya??!!!" No soap, I'm afraid. I must have watched the On
The Waterfront Again and congressional hearings sketches at least ten times,
and I still laugh every time. I love the way everyone is laughing when he
walks out even though there's nothing remotely funny going on. I don't know
if it says something about how good they are, or something about me.
