...the bit where Joe playes a rich guy(quite possibily Howard Hughes) who
gave away money to random people, so long as he could keep his identity
secret; he has his assistant(played by John) hand out the cheques.

That was a spoof on an old TV series... i forget what it was called.
"the Millionaire" or something like that. Every week this millionaire
(whom the viewer never saw) gave out money to people to see how it
would effect their lives...

(goes to show once again how SCTV was stronger than just "spoofs" --
the sketches stand alone and are really funny even if you don't know
what they were spoofing -- the characterizations were so strong).

( though that particular sketch isn't one of my favorties. <-; )

I remember that bit, I love Jonh playing the deliverer of the Money with
his hair slicked back looking like Mr. French from Family Affair(but with
these thick black eyebrows!!) Threatning the Millionare(Joe Flaherty) who
had not paid him in a while:

John-"Listen Old Man!! Un;ess you pay me I going expose your FACE!!! In
FACT THATS WHAT IM GOING DO NOW,....THEREE!!!"

Joe-"NO<NOO,NO"!! ( Looking directly in the camera terrified, looking
like a withered Howard Hughes!!)

I laughed my ass Off!!

SCTV WAS and is STill one of the BEST SHOWS EVER!!

Joe-"Well, lets see how that couple would like a personal cheque for...$100!

John-"May I politely remind you, sir, that your last personal cheque
bounced. In fact, I would like to point out that you haven't paid me for
my services in over 3 weeks now.

Joe-"Hmmm, well maybe I'll make it a cashier's cheque. Lets see...for
$50! That should change their life around.

It was so funny at the end when John was abusing the millionaire, calling
him an old goat and demanding his money, turning him around so everyone at
home could see his face and his anonymousness was shattered.
