Hey,

I just noticed on the Simpson's DVD (Season 4 - Treehouse of Horror)
that when Bart and Lisa enter the Pet Cemetery there is a headstone that
reads "Fish Police". Seems like an SCTV reference, or is there
something else it could mean?

This episode is produced by Conan O'Brien.

Cheers,

Trev

There was a short lived animated CBS series called Fish Police back in 1992.
That was the reference. Btw, John Ritter and Gil Gerard were featured as
voices on that cartoon.

Umm,

and I had been re-reading the Simpsons episode guide but hadn't gotten
to this episode. It also lists 'capital critters' and 'family dog' as
short lived prime time animated series.

What the hell, with titles like that I can't imagine what the were
about? but I'm curious. Anybody have a quick synopsis? I take it they
deserved to be short-lived?

As I recall, wasn't capital critters a comedy about the talking pets of
politicians?

And 'Family Dog' was about a family with a dog. I have somewhat of a
"pilot" on VHS, but actually, it was an edition of NBC's "Amazing Stories"
where they show the original episode of "Family Dog". It dates from 1987
and it's very funny, but I remember the TV series airing much later and on
CBS, and they featured different voices compared to the original characters.
I remember not liking the TV series. It definitely deserved to be
short-lived.

Since i collect all these wonderfully usless tv series, yes Capital
CRitters and Fish Police were bopth god awful and i have all of them.
The were hyped as the "next big thing" before they came outt and they
had big names attached to them, ie John ritter, Steven Bochco, and they
both sucked real bad on arrival. Same goes for Family dog, which actual
had a laserdisc box set released here(for what reason i cannot imagine).
The pilot on amazing stories was Tim Burtons i believe and was
excellent, but then the hype machine started on that series as well and
there was like a 5 year gap it seems between amazing Stories and the
actual Family dog series, and again it had big names attached, ie Steven
Speilberg....and Again it Blowed!

I knew a family who was obsessed with Family Dog. Frighteningly
obsessed--each time I came over (not by choice), there was an episode
on in the background. The kids would cry and throw fits if it wasn't
on, in fact. The parents were way into it too. WHY do scary people
exist?

These are the same families that keep crap like "Small Wonder" on for 3
year in syndication in the mid 80's before WB and UPN existed. remeber
that godawful series with the girl robot living with the depressingly
sterile family, it was bad acting by all with an increasingly inane
laugh track, and it lasted 3 friggen years without any major studio
backing it!!

some reason.
