(Dave Thomas) "Hey Yiorgi. I bet these Uzbeks five(?) rubles that I could
get you to say more than two words."
(Yiorgi) "You lose..."
(Uzbeks) Cheers.
(Yiorgi) "...comrade!"
(Dave Thomas) "Thanks Yiorgi! Now pay up, you Uzbeks!"
(I know, it's not perfect, but it's from memory.)
Yiorgi also helps a couple with marital problems by reminding the husband
that his wife gives him sex; and he helps a man whose car won't start by
looking under the hood and pointing out that his battery fluid has been
siphoned away with drinking straws!
The three-C-P-one episode was always one of my favourites. Remember
"Upposkrabblenyk"? And, "What fits into Russia"? Hilarious stuff.
Neil Flagg.
"You are a battleaxe, and make my life a living hell!"
"You shiftless Latvian pig! You have never worked a day in your life!"
One one my all-time favorite episodes.
> I always thought it was called "Hey, Jorge!"
Are you referring to the CCCP1 Russian television episode. The skit was
about everyone's favorite cossack, Giorgi (sp?), and the theme song was
something like... Hey Giorgi, he's coming to your town,
Hey Giorgi, he never wears a frown,
Hey Giorgi, he's as happy as can be,
Cause all of mother Russia, is Giorgi's family,
Hey Giorgi!
BTW, this is the skit where the Uzbeks drank all of the battery acid in
the cars!
Why, yes, now that you mention it (actually I've been hoping someone would
bring this up!) I've got 11 of the NBC shows from 1982, more or less
intact, i.e., about an hour each, allowing for my awful editing and the
fact that I usually cut out the musical act (I kept Dave Edmunds, Hall &
Oates, John Cougar, maybe some others.) When I have more time I can post a
lineup of what's included -- a few Days of the Week, the Fellini &
Godfather parodies, the Great White North Palace, the Maudlin Anniversary
show, & lots more. I also have the Best of SCTV from a few years ago, if
anyone missed it.
I'd really be interested in any of the earlier Canadian stuff (is that
what they're showing on cable now?), but basically I'd love just about
anything I don't already have. Caveats: my tapes *are* from 1982 & were
done on a Stone Age VCR, not from cable, and mostly in 4- or 6-hour mode.
In short they aren't in ideal shape, but are at least watchable --
certainly for anyone in *this* group!
