I was just wondering what everyone's all-time favorite skit is? Though it's
hard to choose, I'd have to say mine is "Melvin and Howards".... The part where
Howard Cosell is in the back of the pickup looking in just kills me =P

Mine's not so much a skit, it was the entire show. I believe its the
Network 90 #97 (if anyone has this, and wants to trade, e-mail me!!!)
where Bob & Doug get their own special, and the closet was their
dressing room... I don't really remember that much about it... I
remembered I thought I would die of laughter when I first saw it tho!
Another good one was the Doorway To Hell sketch or something like that,
with Li Ye Tang, who kept ruining the plot, and Rick (who was playing
the devil) came out at yelled at him... anyone have that one? I'll
trade!!!:) E-mail me!

Keep On Smilin'!:)

There's soooo many to choose from, but the two that come to mind is the
"Leave It To Beaver" parody where the Beaver kills Eddie Haskell, and the
"Ben Hur" skit that plays like the Three Stooges ("Do you see Ben Hur?"
"Who, her?" No you idiot, not her, Hur!"...)

Great group, I am glad to see SCTV lives somewhere. HEY how about a new
Bob and Doug!!!!!!

Anyway. There was a skit with Maureen O'Hara that was a High School
Quiz. She tried to answer everything with "the Beatles?"
Or how about Dr. Tongues 3-D house of Stewardesses?

But my all time favorite would have to be when Vic Hedges runs for
mayor. The sight of him rescuing the kid from the oncoming train is a
classic, it also makes you wonder how much life immitates art. How many
politicians claim to be able to "save this plant" or "save our
children?"

Vic Hedges can save Mellonville.

Also, Don Caballero taking out the heads of the other networks is a
classic.

If anyone knows where I can buy copies of SCTV, e-mail me.

"I'm thinking of buying another one."

I heard there was going to be a movie - and there was a beer commercial a
few months back (They try to steal a beer truck).

Anyway, I just thought of another favourite: Salvador Dali Paints

I loved this for a few reasons: First, I seemed to always see the real
painter guy ("Happy, fluffy clouds."). Also, my mom loved Dali, and had
prints up all over our house (which can be pretty spooky when you are a
kid). Finally, I think he just nailed it - I could actually see Dali saying
"Ants - biting ants"

Just kidding about `Vikings & the Beekeepers',
Actually was one of Dave Thomas' fav skits, and has some merit
because it's so bizzare, reminded me alot of Monty Python...

One of the Skits I really like is the `Mommy Teresa' sketch-
The part where Lola Heatherton is singing a Pop song, with Mother
Teresa in the backround tilling the Earth,is priceless...

Tommy Shanks `feeding'(dropping) the milkbones to/on his stuffed Dog...

All the Lola(Heatherton) bits, espec. the `Bouncin Back to You' Show.

Steve Roman sketches were great!(Everytime he attempts to do a foreign
accent, they all come out him sounding Swedish!)
Angel Cortez: FBI Jockey-

Older Stuff, but still Classic: Ben Hur, Grapes of Mud, Lust for Paint

The John Candy(LaRue) StreetBeef wraparounds from Staff Christmas

Yes, this thing really becomes even funnier if you were familiar with this
package of movies I believe CBS ran on Saturday mornings from the early 70's to
the mid 70's. Invariably it was some kiddie deal based on either fairy tale
of some nature/pet angst. Also it was always a foreign film with a
particularly bad dub job! Consequently that skit was so well done it was scary!

As for another great skit, who can forget the time when Bobby Bittman was
interviewed in midst of his self imposed retirement on some kind of farm. He
starts by babbling to the commetator about being at one with nature and
gradually moves on to a rage about wanting to make a comeback. This had me
rolling. It was so good in fact, they decided to use a very similar concept in
the larry Sanders TV show where he had retired. The only bothered to replace
the farm with some kind of marina or something. Once again this proves that
many of SCTV's ideas are still influencing comedy these days. Another example
is in a 2 or 3 year old episode of Mad TV where they do a piece involving a
barbershop quartet doing gansta rap which is obviously a ripoff of our beloved
5 Neat guys.

Where this bit excelled was showing how everyday comments and
observations make it into a comedian's act. During the rant, he talks
about "...paving the whole damn thing(farm) over...", which becomes a
huge laugh line in the comeback special.

His farming ensemble is fantastic, BTW. Were they Gucci or fur
trimmed overalls, or something like that?

Trying to pick my favorite SCTV skit is like trying to pick my favorite Bugs
Bunny cartoon.
Here are a few of my favorites:
The "Leave it to Beaver" reunion show was a classic. Perfectly cast,
especially Catherine O'Hara as June Cleaver. My favorite part was when Ward
(Flaherty) was pouring booze on his bowl of cereal.
Another favorite was the Fantasy Island with Levy as Mr. Rourke and John Candy
(using special effects) as Tattoo. The best part is when Mr. Rourke would
abuse Tattoo.
I always loved the one where they took an entire episode of the old "Cisco Kid"
TV show and added their own dialogue.
"Happy Hour" was good too, especially when they did the "Six Gun Justice"
episodes and Happy Marsden explained how the stars died grisly deaths.
My favorite "Sammy Maudlin" episode would have to be the one which was a spoof
of the famous "Tonight Show" episode from the early Carson years when they had
Ed Ames on (he was on a western show at the time) and he was showing Johnny how
to throw a hatchet at a piece of plywood that had a human silouhette on it and
it hit right in the crotch. On the Maudlin show the Indian guy (Levy) was
showing how to throw a rock and he threw a rock at William B. (Candy) and hit
him in the jewels.
The "Towering Inferno" spoof with Flaherty playing Chuck Heston was a riot.
"Night School Quiz" (Jeopardy Parody) was great too.
"Farm Film Celebrity Blow Up" was always terrific; the best one was the time
Brooke Shields (O'Hara) was badly singing a Rod Stewart song and blew up good,
blew up real good.
"Oliver Grimley" was great too, especially with the casting of Tommy Lasorda
(Candy?) as the Artful Dodger.
The ad for "Edna Boil's Petting Zoo" (After Tex left) which had Martin Short as
Boil Boy.
My favorite ad parodies would have to include the smoke detector with a snooze
button on it.

originally Canadian like "Alex Trebel" too).

Every once in a while I'd chirp "The Beatles?" in my best Margaret Meehan.

As for my own favorite skits, they had to be the janitors' strike ones
with the CBC programming. They cracked us up because at that time we were
still sometimes able to pick up CTV and CBC stations in Ohio if there were
enough sunspots or whatever (this was before we got cable TV). The
parodies of Canadian programming were so spot-on. Even watching these
today reminds me of how weirdly quiet and dignified the CBC was in the
early '80s compared to how it is today (and I still see a lot of its
programming because of being a figure skating fan and getting tapes of it,
and watching it when I go to Canada to watch skating). In the early '80s
the CBC still projected a very quiet, dignified, sophisticated,
British-flavored "BBC" image, instead of being brash and Americanized like
it is now. But even today, you can still catch those Saturday-afternoon
curling competitions!

I also loved the show later on where they had "Canadian Gaffes and
Practical Amusements," the Canadian bloopers show, where they played lame
"Canadian practical jokes," like having a talking trash can on Yonge
Street and running up to someone's door, ringing the bell and hiding.

How could I forget Irving Cohen. The ad he did for the furniture polish was
priceless; he was spraying the piano but he was so old and out of it he never

Is that High-Q you're thinking of with Eugene Levy as Alex Trebel? I
love the part where they play the song, "Sometimes when we touch" and
the wrong team buzzes in and answers. Alex says, "I hope you're
satisfied, you just gave them the answer". When the other team buzzes
in, Andrea Martin's character says, "The honesty's too much". The
double take that Levy does is priceless.

One of my favorites is 2009: Jupiter and Beyond with Ernest Borgnine,
Idella Voudry and Art Garfunkel. The takeoff of the Harpo Marx-Lucille
Ball mirror skit with the Monolith and Garfunkel is hysterical.
