I remember that Wendy O. and the Plasmatics were on and the name of the
character was Gill Fisher.

Didn't Gil's wife take a reggae band shopping for antiques?

: I also found in the appendices of Dave Thomas' book "SCTV: Behind The
: Scenes" about appearances from Hall & Oates, Bob Geldof (w/Boomtown
: Rats), Levon Helm, Dr. John, Roy Orbison, Al Jarreau, Wendy O Williams
: and the Plasmatics, James Ingram, Tony Bennett, Carl Perkins, and
: Dave Edmunds.

I think I remember most of these appearances. Hall and Oates in "Chariots
of Eggs"(love the musical score..but it's more than just that), Sir Bob
Geldof and the Rats in Teacher's Pet(just loved this whole piece..right!),
Levon Helm is interviewed(sort of) by Earl Canmibare(sp?..that's gotta be
wrong) for One on the Town, Dr. John in the brilliant "Polyanisian
Town"(these ribs are killer..the sauce is cold-blooded), Roy Orbison
"comes back" for an appearance on Mel's Rock Pile(and seems to be having
a good time..Mel faints), Al Jarreau in The Jazz Singer(.."this is what
we've been waiting for Yissel"....but Dad, I want to be cantor), Wendy O
Williams and band appeared on the "Fishin' Musician"(..oh I can't stand
the stuff...oh no, never touch it), James Ingram is booked for a gig at
Count Floyd's Three D House of Beef, but they couldn't pay him for his
appearance, fight erupts...,Tony Bennett is the the big guest on The
Great White Palace Special with Bob and Doug, sings two songs, of which
one is "I wish I were in love again"; huge appearance by a singing
god(..sure I want a beer..I've vwanted a beer all day), Carl Perkins, who
I remember being on the show, but haven't seen in a long time, and don't
remember what or where he showed up. Dave Edmonds is involved with the reds
(Duke Synder fan club) in "I was a Teenage Communist" and of coarse the
Tubes, who go fishing with Gil, until 'ol Willy puts them in the weeds
again(can't ya just see Gil standing in the boat, bitchin' about the whole
situation..I can) Some of the acting that was drawn out of these music
people was quite good at times; I'm sure they had ton's of fun at
rehersals.
<snip>

: A listing/mention
: from Dave Thomas mentioned his brother, Ian Thomas, as a
: singer/musical act on one of the shows.

He was a guest on Bob and Doug's Canadian Corner Show, because like he was
Canadian too eh...now, he's working with Red Green(Steve Smith,Rick Green
et al) as Dougie, the local grease monkey; he's pretty funny, as is the
show.
Gotta love "Adventures with Bill"...

: BTW, for anyone who hasn't picked up a copy of Dave's book, get it!
: It is an invaluable reference and a great remembrance of a prize of a
: show, gone but not forgotten.

I'm going to my local library...
