In other words, there will be new episodes in Fall of 2000, but the
2000-2001 will be "Hang Time's" last. Just like last season and this
season with "The New Class".

Sure, I believe this. The show has run its course. (And, as Srini points
out, Mary Beth and Julie, at least, should be seniors by now.)

Nope. The way I heard it, there would be one of two new versions of "The
New, New SbtB":

1) Yet another version set in Bayside High, presumably post-Belding.
I actually think this is unlikely.

2) A SbtB-like show, but in a new setting (perhaps a boarding school).
Problem with this is that "Running The Halls" and "USA High"
have already covered this territory, and covered it better than
any SbtB-spinoff could.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what they finally come up with.

Personally, for a "New, New SbtB" to be successful, I think they
*seriously* need to go back to the schemeing, Zack Morris-esqe type
character. One of the reasons "The New Class" has bombed is that they
moved away from the "schemer" lead character after season #3. They need to
bring it back.

(Bonus points if they reinvent the whole SbtB genre by having the 'lead
schemer' be a *girl* this time. A female "Zack Morris"! I love the idea
already... :> )

1) What is your source on this info?

2) Any more info on the new Katie series?

I do hope we get one more season out of the Hang Time. As far as
continuity goes(re: Seniors)I really don't care. These shows are
totally unbeleiveable. I just watch'em for the babes.

I think it's more likely. The Engel crew is very into recycling. Why
trash all those sets?

USA High is easily the most implausible and stupid of all these shows.
All these people living in Paris and only one French person? It's the
same damn show as the rest of them without the pretense of the unseen
parents. And I think we saw the USA High parents just as much as Saved
and a lot more than Hang Time. (Do those kids even HAVE parents? And
where are the teachers in that school?)

I would not be happy if this happens. I got very bored with Zack after
a while. How many times did he learn the same lesson? Granted, the
pendulum swung too far back with "The New Class". They are too goody
goody. They need to find a middle ground. Have a couple of kids that
scheme and get in trouble and have the focus shift. Man, what I
wouldn't give for an episode that just focused on Kellie instead of how
Kellie relates to Zack.

However, as long as Engel and Co. keep churning out teen comedies with
hot chicks, I will be there.

Whatever.

Well, it's always more complicated than that with T-NBC. The fourth and
fifth season of "Cal. Dreams" was supposed to be a *single* year: the
gang's senior year. This is also how this season and last on "The New
Class" have worked.

"Hang Time" will just work it the same way.

Oh yeah. RtH was *definitely* supposed to be a boarding High School. I
don't know if they ever said what grade they were supposed to be in
though. (I think some of the characters already knew each other, so it was
probably supposed to be their sophomore year.)

Well, unlike you, Srini, I think *all* seven season of "The New Class"
sucked. But dropping the 'schemer' angel after season #3 took TNC from
being a poorly-acted, derivative mess (seasons #1-#3) to a poorly-acted,
derivative mess WITH NO POINT (seasons #4-#7)!

But, yeah, restoring the 'scheming' lead character would go a long way in
resurrecting this franchise.

I too am starting to *really* like this idea. I can easily imagine a real
hot looking young actress (preferably with acting talent) sinking her
teeth into this role.

And unlike Zack or Jackson Green ("USA High") or the two leads on "City
Guys", a girl schemer could scheme not only about money making ventures,
but also in playing social and romantic havok with her peers a la Cher in
the movie "Clueless".

There is a *lot* of potential in doing a gender switch on the 'schemer' in
the "New, New SbtB". It could totally rejuvinate the SbtB franchise, and
could eliminate the lazy and derivative aspects that crept into "The New
Class".

Of course, the odds that Engel and co. will actually figure this out and
go with it are probably pretty slim indeed. :(

Well, that's good. I'm not quite ready to go through Megan Parlen
withdrawal just yet.

Actually, they should be college freshmen (Michael Maxwell is probably in
college somewhere). They probably just got left back because they spent

too much time on shopping and basketball, respectively. Although, I
thought you needed to have good grades to stay eligible for the basketball
team. Didn't Earl Hatfield almost get kicked off for letting his grades
drop?

Yeah, I doubt that one too. Wouldn't it just be "Saved by the Bell: The
Even Newer Class"? Sounds pointless. But that probably means Engel will do
it.

Amen. Although, are you sure that RtH was a high school show? I always
thought Middlefield Academy was a college, given the look of the campus
and the apparent ages of the characters. Did they ever actually state that
it was high school?

Well, I'm glad to see that someone besides me recognizes this as the cause
for the death of "The New Class". I'm not exaggerating when I say that I
LOVED the first 3 seasons. They just felt like the old school days. I
watch Seasons 4-7 basically just to ogle Sarah and Ashley.

I never thought of that, but it sounds awesome! Just imagine - a hot girl
who is also a slick, con-artist. Maybe she could also be blonde like Zack.

Hmm, do I see a possible Sarah Lancaster comeback? (You knew I had to work
that in there somehow :)). I usually frown on an actor/actress playing 2
different roles in the same continuity (unless they're shown to be twins,
like Phoebe and Ursula on "Friends"), but in Sarah's case, I could make an
exception.

You mean the parents of the kids in Hang Time? Hang time has had episodes with
their parents in them.
