The Rest of Us
WOW! -- A LOT going on in this episode, the penultimate episode (I
know, I said this was the season finale but that is next week's episode).
They are still interrogating Noah, who is dying from the serum Liz
injected him with. She has the antidote. She wants to use it so she won't
think of herself as a killer. Max takes it from her, saying now Noah's life
or death is on him, not her.
Noah tells them when the ship crashed, many of his people were
slaughtered. So he had to hide. But when Isobel was attacked in the desert,
it gave him an 'in' to her mind, and he began killing for revenge.
Isobel went into his mind to find out stuff. He tried to talk her
into the both of them going back to how they were - pretending to be normal.
She wasn't having any of that.
Meanwhile Alex, Michael, and Kyle take a road trip to Caulfield, the
abandoned prison that turns out to essentially be “Guantánamo for innocent
people” — or more accurately, innocent aliens. There are dozens of elderly
aliens who survived the crash, all of them shuffling around in varying
stages of dementia after decades in captivity, and their bodies are covered
in bruises, track marks, and other evidence of torture. Michael is
horrified, feeling an instant connection to the prisoners, while Kyle
realizes that his father’s cancer was caused by an interaction with one
particular alien, Subject N38, who seems to be essentially radioactive.
Michael realizes that an elderly woman gazing sadly at him from one of
the cells is his mother, and tries desperately to smash the glass, which
sets off the building’s self-destruct. They make a short psychic
connection, then they have to go before the place explodes.
Michael doesn’t respond kindly when he arrives home to find Max about
to let the serum to kill a weakened Noah. Michael refuses to let another
alien die, but as he approaches Noah with the antidote, Max points a gun at
him.
Michael calls Max, Maximo (in the original Michael called him
Maxwell).
Noah told Max that the tattoo on his back is a map to where they
came from -- like he can really see it!
We see the last of Cam - she was suspended/fired when she fired the
warming shots at Noah, but to protect Max, said she was drinking and
showing off. Plus, she knows that Max loves Liz, not her; no reason to
stick around now
I hate to see her go, but there are a LOT of characters in the
show, and her part seemed the least important.
Noah said the mark he left on Liz connects them - Max obviously
didn't like this at all!
Liz is back to waitressing at the Crashdown now that she has no
funding for her research.
As I said, next week is the season finale, but from what I've read,
there is still a chance the show won't be renewed. So here's hoping we wont'
be left dangling.
