The media is trying to dishonestly "re-cancel" comedian Roseanne Barr over a
podcast appearance where she made sarcastic comments related to the
Holocaust, Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro said Wednesday.

Barr made the comments on an appearance on Theo Von's podcast this week in an
effort to express her belief that the 2020 election was stolen and that
President Joe Biden did not fairly defeat former President Donald Trump.

"There's such a thing as the truth and facts, and we have to stick to it, and
that is the truth," the onetime TV star and stand-up comic said after a
series of comments declaring the 2020 election free of corruption. "Nobody
died in the Holocaust, either. That's the truth. It should happen. Six
million Jews should die right now because they cause all the problems in the
world, but it never happened."

Shapiro said on his podcast that, in context, Barr's comments were obviously
sarcastic, and that the media was just attempting to further destroy Barr's
career. He added that almost any comedian, like Dave Chappelle or Louis C.K.,
could easily be canceled by just reading their monologues out of context.

"And the entire media ran with this as though she actually was calling for a
new Holocaust, which she clearly is not. And I've got to say, like Roseanne
says, crazy stuff sometimes and bad stuff sometimes. But this is obviously a
media attempt to re-cancel Roseanne Barr," Shapiro said. "You can hear she's
being sarcastic. It's a failed attempt at sarcasm, but it's clearly sarcasm."

The Daily Wire co-founder explained that Barr was framing her statements in a
way to pair two things she didn't actually believe.

"She's taking the position of the YouTube censors and she's saying in the
same category of things that are false," Shapiro said. "These are two things
are false, she is saying: Biden won 81 million votes and the Holocaust didn't
happen. She's saying both those things are false. Right. That's what she's
actually saying."

Shapiro said that the media and the Left did this to him all the time, taking
comments meant to be comedic and treating them seriously.

"They're doing it to make fun of me, which is totally fine. They're doing it
to Roseanne to try and destroy whatever's left of her career, which is really
not fine," he said.
