Cripes, I can still remember watching his antics on reruns of "Dobie Gillis," long
before his role as Gilligan. And he was 70! We are all getting old.

Bob Denver died on Friday. He was 70.

Bob Denver, whose television roles as Gilligan, the wacky first mate in "Gilligan's
Island," and Maynard G. Krebs, the beatnik with a bongo in "The Many Loves of Dobie
Gillis," were first hits, then cult classics, died on Friday in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was
70.
Bob Denver was best known for his role in "Gilligan's Island."
Mike Eisenstadt, Mr. Denver's agent, announced the death, The Associated Press reported.
Mr. Denver was being treated for cancer at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital and
underwent quadruple bypass surgery earlier this year.

does death at 70 years old surprise anyone?

It doesn't. It was just kind of shocking to realize that
Bob Denver was 70! That's why I closed my post
by saying that we're all getting old.
I heard a humorous comment about this on the radio
a few days ago. In a comedic tribute, the guy said
that Denver's body was discovered to have been
severely beaten about the head and shoulders with
a captain's hat.

I did an hour long interview with Bob back in June of 1994. I recently turned a portion of that interview into a YouTube slide show. I was also lucky enough to not only interview Bob, but later I worked with him when I hosted a special tribute to Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of "Gilligan's Island," when they both came to Montreal for Just For Laughs.

Hey, Brian and Adam, has Shane come back? Brandon De Wilde (sp) is a little older now, no longer ranching but working for Facebook, and Van Heflin is gone, but every June Brandon goes to the cabin near the Grand Tetons and shouts, "Shane, come back!"

If it is you, Someone, I figured you were in the clutches of Nurse Ratchit or on the run somewhere in the New Mexico wastes from DEA agent Hank Schrader of Breaking Bad fame.
Anyway, Herrmann's 100th birthday was last year and the Wall Street Urinal did a fond remembrance. Bernard, who passed in obscurity, was shunted aside near the end; and he always, said the Fond Remembrance, wanted to rival Stravinsky.
Anyway, ever since you explained how Cary Grant did those Mt. Rushmore rock-climbing scnes in NBNW, I've usually seen through such stuff in later movies.
I'm telling Angel you might be back. He's still in the sanitorium with the big guy who bounces the basketball off the walls.
