So I am a Comcast Digital Preferred subscriber and they are constantly
adding new channels and networks to their lineup. I was recently
browsing through the Comcast on-screen program listings and saw "The
Rockford Files" listed on "MeTV" Network, which I had never heard of
before but was now being offered by Comcast.

I checked it out and it's actually a pretty decent channel. It is a
"Classic Television" channel that airs TV series primarily from the
60s, 70s, and 80s. Some pretty heavy hitters like MASH, Cheers, Mary
Tyler Moore, and Star Trek. Their presentation is very respectful as
well; an unobtrusive logo in the corner of the screen, no annoying pop-
up ads, and they don't go to commercial every 5 minutes like some
channels do. I can't tell yet whether the episodes are unedited
(probably not).

Anyway, nice to see Rockford being shown on television again in such a
respectful presentation. Its been years since Rockford has been aired
on any of my channels. Only problem is that it's on at 4 PM Central
Monday through Friday and I don't get home until 5 PM, so I just might
have to join the TiVo generation.

Here's more info about MeTV if you're interested:

MeTV is a programming service from the last remaining independently owned
broadcast channel in Chicago, WCIU, developed for airing on one of the
standard definition subchannels.

In your area, it's undoubtably broadcast on an SD subchannel. It's not
comparable to a satellite channel that would have a direct deal with
Comcast, but offered due to whatever compensation arrangement Comcast
has with the local affiliate.

So you could receive it over the air, or if you had basic cable and
the appropriate digital tuner. Doesn't require a higher cost cable
subscription.

The Rockford edits are generally watchable.

The real test is what edit they use for The Man Who Saw the Alligators,
notorious in other second-run syndication deals for that awful edit into
60 minutes, including commercials.

According to their website they currently have agreements to air about
50 shows. Heck, I could watch some of them just for pure nostalgia
value. They have "Love American Style" and "Cannon", two shows I
definitely watched when growing up in the 70's. Stuart Margolin is in
"Love American Style", of course . . . mainly in the vignettes between
the main features. I thought "Cannon" was great when I watched it as
a young kid but as an adult I realize it is just a formulaic, cookie
cutter detective show. Nothing special . . . just like "Mannix",
another show I loved as a kid. But don't discount the nostalgia
value . . . brings you back to a time and place.

MeTV is great. We have Comcast and have been getting it for several
weeks now.
I enjoy watching "Mission Impossible," "Peter Gunn," "Batman," "Lost In
Space" and other classic shows.
Comcast also added another nostalgia channel, AntennaTV. It's similar
to MeTV.

All channels available on over-the-air DTV channels. You can save
$1000s per year by dumping comcast and getting an antenna.

I looked up the WE channel and to my shock,,,I had it in my basic lineup,
which this type of good fortune never follows me. So now I'm watching The
Original "Rock" a.k.a. Jim Rockford...so thanks alot for the info.

That was my favorite show as a child. I only missed one episode in four
seasons. I bought the box set 3 years ago and finally got to see it.

Tony,

Do you wanna trade your Wild Wild West for my Mission Impossible? either
permament trade or short term loan ...say three or four months?

Assuming you live in North America...

I recorded an episode a few days ago and just now edited out the
commercials, which left 45 minutes and 55 seconds.

Yeah, I know. I was asking if he had or was interested in them.
I have all the original series but haven't gotten the 88-90 series yet.

I'll trade you my Barnaby Jones DVD box set for your Mission
Impossible. Heck, I'll even throw in my Lee Meriwether centerfold
poster. :)
