TRIVIA NOTE: According to James Garner, the license plate number (853-
OKG) on Jim Rockford's Firebird was thought up by his agent. It
represents August of 1953 when James Garner got his first acting role
and the OKG comes from his home state of Oklahoma and the first letter
of his last name!
I was looking around for info on where the original Esprit might be
today and found out there were 14 used in production. Some lucky car
buyer in LA ended up with the final TRF model. He even has a
certificate of authenticity.
I guessing the guy was buying what he thought was a former lease at a
local Pontiac dealer (the one the studio returned it to), and didn't
even know what he had until after he bought it. Makes me wonder why
the leaser didn't keep it. They let it go for market value too, and if
that's true, they live too close to the border.
Sounds like you did some good detective work to track down the
the original TRF car. Do you think more than one model was used
through the series? Could the new owner keep the old license no?
