Hullo Sarah!
I'll be nice to you, as a fellow Australian; here are the answers to
your well phrased questions:
Series 7 *has* been made, and three episodes have already been shown to
audiences to obtain laugh-tracks.
Chris Barrie was in four of the eight episodes, but don't worry, it
seems very likely that he'll be back for RD8.
If you want any more info, try the Red Dwarf FAQ at
http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/hypertext/faq/usenet/FAQ-list.html
As a recent arrival on this news group I would recommend that you do what
I did first and check out the Frequently Asked Questions site (The Red
Dwarf FAQ) even though I thought my knowledge of RD was pretty good and
upto date. I thimk Q19 is about series7 and maybe you will find some
other interesting stuff o that site.
I would also recommend reading the primer that was posted recently on
this news group by Ang (I think it was Ang) but you will probably find it
on the RD links page which is: http://user.itl.net/~starbug/reddwarf.html
I would recommend reading both of those if you want people to be nice to
you or you may make some people upset for asking questions they feel you
should know. I think the INQUISITOr called them Superior Beings. Get used
to the Sarcasm, Americans think that saying "Yeh, Right!" is the same
thing but they are wrong.
Briefly to answer you Q's Yes and Yes.

I think it's just better for your sake not to ask quetions that have
been answered many times previously. Many newsgroups have FAQs, and it's
really just good manners to read the FAQ for 2 reasons
1. It saves you from flames when you find the answer to the questions
that's been asked a few dozen times
2. Someone put a lot of work into writing the bloody thing for ppl like
you and I... least we can do is take a few minutes and read the bloody
thing.

Was there a reason for that insulting sweeping generalization of all
Americans? Attempt at flamebait? Sarcasm? (if it is, you missed me
completely on it [gawrsh, us dumb ol' American's can't understand
nuttin' hyuck hyuck], a smiley at the end might help prevent this sort
of misunderstanding in the future :) ).
In any case I happen to take offense at it...there are plent
unfavorable (IMO) stereotypes about Canadians I shan't go into, do you
like them to be used as a general statement?

But so are lies.

I will warn you that it has some spoilers on it though.

Wrong (=
All the eps have been shown to audiences, but different audiences. There
were three screenings on the Friday, and three on the Saturday, and three
episodes were shown at each. Odd really, as six times 3 is 18, and 18
doesn't divide by 8, the number of shows that actually exist.

Sarcasm at no extra charge
Not odd. They would like to get the best possible laughter for each
episode. They would tape the laughter and then splice bits from each
audience together to make the episode appear as funny as possible (what if
no-one laughed?!?!?!?)
BTW, if you by chance have seen them or know of someone who has,
please send them my way. I've got synopses on 3 of the 8, and I'm trying
to scrounge out the other 5 before the series airs.
