With the recent cancellation of NBC's The Pretender and the apparent
non-signing of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to another season of
FOX's X-Files hit, rumors are flying that fans of both shows may not yet be
disappointed.
"We're really excited about this," said one cast member who chose to remain
anonymous. "This could not only save [two or more] beloved characters from a
fantastic series, but rejuvenate [the X-Files.]
What the source was raving about, of course, is the possible addition of
Andrea Parker and Michael T. Weiss to the cast of The X-Files, to reprise
the roles of America's favorite mystery-chasing FBI Agents. Sources close to
the arangement say that it is highly unlikely that either Anderson or
Duchovny will resign for another season, leaving FOX with a quandry; What to
do with a successful show that is about to lose it's two most important
characters? The answer, as some see it, is to bring in new blood. For
several months now, it had been speculated that a spin off would be the
solution, detailing the adventures of the three geeks (more commonly known
as the Lone Gunmen) that often support Agents Mulder & Scully.
"That is still a possibility," said another insider. He further eluded that
Jon Gries, who portrays the character Broots on the ill-fated Pretender, may
join the wacky trio. "We don't see why this couldn't be a possibility.
Everyone from [the Pretender] is fantastic."
Initial reports indicate that the actors will not be required to learn new
roles, instead being invited to use their existing characters and cast them
as freshly recruited FBI Agents. Far fetched? Hardly, Jarod (Micheal Weiss)
has played an FBI Agent on The Pretender several times, and Miss Parker
(played by Andrea Parker) certainly has the attitude and skills of a great
agent. With the parting of Agents Scully and Mulder, could Agents Parker and
Jarod continue to keep fans interested? "It's a crap-shoot," admits one
producer, "people don't typically respond well to such drastic changes. We
have full confidence that it could be something special if given an
opportunity, however." This writer agrees.

This, of course, is utter bullsh*t. But wouldn't it be nice?
