Paul Reubens talks out about the future of PEE-WEE HERMAN and still wants to
do 2 movies!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here... funny that this bit of news should come in as I
spent a part of my night watching Paul Reubens' commentary on PEE-WEE'S
PLAYHOUSE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL with Miss Yvonne and Jambi. I grew up on
PEE-WEE'S PLAYHOUSE, PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE and was given a copy of the
Christmas Special on VHS when I was about 10 or 11 years old. Needless to
say I'm a huge fan of the character and welcome any additions Reubens wants
to make to the world of Pee-Wee Herman!
"FRESH AIR WITH TERRY GROSS" on NPR interviewed Paul Reubens where she asked
him about more Pee-Wee Herman Movies. Two are in the works, a Pee-Wee's
Playhouse movie that will explore, for the first time, outside the
Playhouse. Reubens said "We've talked about Puppet Land but we've never
really seen it. Kind of like an epic Wizard of Oz kind of adventure film,
and the other one is... the dark Pee-Wee move. Kind of the "The Valley Of
The Dolls" Pee-Wee movie... which I think is the one that is going to get
made first. I just have to finish rewriting it and then it's gonna get
made."

He also mentions that he is developing a western movie, nothing attached to
that, he's not even sure if he'll be able to star in it.

He didn't mention anything about a director or producer so everything seems
to be up in the air right now. Could it be too much to hope for Tim Burton?
To this day I still love the original adventure. Best part for me is
watching him pull his insanely long bike chain out of his basket, but the
camera is too low and you can see the chain being fed up through the bottom.
And I didn't car a bit. The new DVD's are also out with all of the original
Saturday morning Pee-Wee's Playhouse episodes, which ran for 5 years and won
22 Emmys!
