here are some new tidbits on this new daytime soap coming on nbc…

The show is set in a wealthy New England town called Thunder Cove. The show is
a made up of 5 core families: The mysterious founding Irish family Mcfayddens,
The evil British Brennans, The socialite Lawrences, and The well-respected
Sullivans & Taylors. The show is based on the mysterious feud between two
families of vampires The Mcfayddens and The Brennans that has been on going for
three centuries. The feud brings on mysterious and unexplained happenings in
Thunder Cove that has the whole town aware that myth of the two families is
very much a fact . The show is going to be like nothing you have ever seen on
daytime, the sets are going to be much bigger than the other soaps, a lot of
outdoor shots, and the visual effects are going to be more realistic. It has
said that the show was going to have a prime-time drama look, but the creators
wanted to stay with a original new look for a daytime drama. It was a tough
decision to make for NBC, who have the established "Days Of Our Lives" on one
hand, and "Passions," which is still new and starting to form its audience, on
the other hand. With "Passions" still being new, NBC thought that bringing a
new soap to the canvas wasn't the right idea. But, when they read the Bible for
"Thunder's Secret" they decided to take a chance because they saw it as a
breathtaking, timeless story that needed to be told. The creators have
approached Michael Swan and Lesley-Anne Downs to play the most important roles
on the new soap and the feedback has been great. In talks is the idea of a
crossover from "Passions" to launch "Thunder's Secret". Hopefully, Thunder's
Secret" should hit the tube by the fall of 2001.

is it just me or is this starting to sound like a passions rip-off in a way? i
really think that nbc should either keep its line-up or put more of a realistic
soap to balance passions and days. if nbc does put this out, i think it will
bomb unless they do a lot of crossovers with passions and/or they get top-notch
actors and actresses because we have enough time watching either/both passions
and days. and about this being a story that needed to be told… what the heck
is needed to be told? the fact that two families of vampires hate each other?
they could just suck each other's blood in the night for all i care, but i
don't get how that would be a reason for us to watch. to be entertained? we
already have that with passions. to laugh? we already have that with passions.
although if they did get lesley anne downs and the fact that they will do more
outside shots sounds interesting, i really see no need for this soap to come on
the air. why not bring back sunset? what are your thoughts on this?

I think it sounds interesting and different from "regular"soaps. I would
definitely give it a try. What I want to know is who is writing it. If it is
JER and staff I will pass because I don't think I could handle watching another
endlessly s-l-o-w show.

I'm just worried about "paranormal" overkill. Days is into ghosts and weird
castles and cans that go bump in the night (and day), Passions has living
dolls, witches, and evil living in the basement. Thunder's Secret would need
to be scary as hell w/o the tongue-in-cheek. However, it still feels like
overkill, unless they bump Passions. In which case, I would be a very unhappy
camper.

Excuse my stupidity, but is this supposed to be a day time soap, or a prime
time soap? If it's day time, and as slow as Passions, we would see the
first vampire bite about six months after it starts-----on the nighttime
version, it might only take a month or two.

Hmmmmm..maybe they are pulling the plug on Passions and they are quickly trying
to find something to replace it with.

but why would they do that? passions has been getting a rise in ratings and is
a cult hit, so why would they replace it? i really think nbc is trying to
double its success with supernatural storytelling, but all i can say is "nbc…
too much of anything can be like being sent to the death chamber!"

Ok, here's the scoop on Thunder:

Ok, what's up is that NBC was reluctant at first to launch the new soap (which
will be daytime. they are going for something new)
but then read the stuff on Thunder and decided to go ahead. It is most likely
going to start in late 2001 or early 2002. The premise is that the town of
Thunder Cove is the setting for two families of feuding vampires that has gone
on for ages. The sets will be bigger, more outdoor shots, and good visual
effect. Also, there are talks (just talks, mind you) of a Thunder-Passion
crossover.

So now that Passions has increased ratings and a strong following among
their target audience, they will stick this new soap right after Passions,
and hope to keep the audience glued to their sets, thus making the second
soap an instant success. Nice idea. It will work-----if they position the
shows properly. In our area, Passions is followed by Sally Jesse Raphael,
and ANYTHING is better than her, even another slow, go nowhere, soap.

This new soap is a huge false rumor.

It is supposedly referenced in screenwriting and TV magazines. I get
just about ALL of them...and it's nowhere to be found in any of them!

In addition, when this rumor first cropped up, the news apparently broke
in a screenwriters magazine. It would NOT hit there first. Probably
VARIETY or HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Possibly one of the soap magazines, who
would certainly have reported about it by now.

The biggest thing missing from this information is the creator's name(s),
which would be one of the big points if it were to appear in a TV or
screenwriting magazine. It would have included their names, their past
credits, etc. And yet...NOTHING about that here.

Casting, too, would not be started by now given the timeline they've come
up with.
