Wow....that is too skinny....I knew she was thin but I had no idea she was *that*
thin. I wonder it she tries to stay that thin or if it just happened. Sometimes
people really do lose alot of weight without meaning to, but if it was getting
that out of control, I would think she should have done something about it.

tonight she was in a pretty tight-fitting outfit and EXTREMELY thin, to a
worrying extent... You never know if the tabloid stuff is true (didn't she
and SW break up years ago and remain friends?), but something definitely
happened -- I was sort of hoping she'd lost weight for a movie or
something... But on this week's show it was very obvious... Hopefully it's
nothing serious...

You got that right. I was wondering when the press was going to pick up on
her emaciation--I guess she's not as big a star as Calista Flockhart. I saw
an old episode of PO5 on Lifetime or some channel like that the other day,
and she really looked much better. She looks like a famine victim now...hope
she gets some help.

Good point. having just seen some lifetime reruns I have to admit Paula looked
shockingly thin and ill on the most recent show. I found it quite sad. she is a
stunning women. I don't know if she reads this newsgroup but if she dose please
paula,take care of your self.

Like others I hadn't had a good look at Paula since she hadn't been on
lately and I missed the Rosie show. It's apparent to me now too, how
thin she's gotten. In the first couple seasons of the show she was
absolutely beautiful. She was never a toothpick, but she looked great.
I'm not sure what's happened. I don't know if it's a medical condition,
emotional problems, or if it's how she wants to look. I also loved
seeing her with straight hair again, but to see her that skinny worried
me. I really hope everything is ok with her, because Paula really is a
beautiful and talented actress.

I hope so too. She really is talented. What's creepy is that E! ran a bio on
Karen Carpenter again this week. That was so sad, but now there are a lot of
potential Karen Carpenters. Frightening, really.

I agree. OTOH, given that she *is* this thin and it is an issue of concern, it would
be a storyline worth pursuing if it didn't hit close to home (or if it did but the
actress was willing/ready to cope with it).
I, too, have noticed that aside from the apparent weight change, her overall
appearance has some of the characteristics associated with eating disorders (for
example, what anorexia and/or bulimia can do to a person's hair), as does Calista
Flockhart's, although in both cases there would be other possible causes. It's
awkward as a public issue, because on the one hand, people can be pretty harsh and
presumptive about a person who is just very thin, and OTOH, people can be slow to
recognize signs a person is endangered. While neither PD's nor CF's life is really
our business nor within -- for most of us -- our power to influence, public awareness
can help people recognize the same problem in people around them. I think about
Tracey Gold, from "Growing Pains," every time these discussions come up, and of
Cynthia Rowland McClure, an Oklahoma TV reporter who now speaks publicly about
bulimia and related issues. I guess it boils down to: (1) If these two women do not
have an eating disorder, I hope they are otherwise in good health and that it becomes
more evident; (2) if either of them does, I hope she begins to get the help she
needs; and (3) either way, I hope the discussion causes people to turn from the focus
on national figures and famous faces to people in their own lives who may need wise
counsel.

The week or so before I also was saddened to see the actor who plays Justin
looking very thin, immaciated. They also shot him in profile instead of more
head on, and in shadow, as if to have him away from the lights.
Has he been ill? He looks either anorexic
or perhaps he has another serious health problem. Does anyone know.

Also, you should keep in mind that the camera quite literally adds about
15 pounds to your appearance. It shocked me that Paula looked so thin.
I hope she can overcome whatever is ailing her.

That's a very good point, and it reminds me of an example.
I remember an episode of "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" that featured the
original Colleen, played by Erika Flores. The story was about Colleen being
teased for having big breasts. As it turned out, Erika really had really big
breasts, especially for a petite girl (at least a D cup, possibly a DD). Soon
after that episode, Erika left the series with no official explanation. No
one would say why she left. People asked for almost a year after she left.
She disappeared.
Now she has resumed acting, appearing most recently on "The New Love Boat" --
as a brunette (her real hair color) -- and with noticeably smaller breasts. I
wonder if she was so sensitive about her size that she got them reduced just
like Soleil Moon Frye did.
Very good advice. I hope that if PD is anorexic, that she is *not* in denial.
But it's just like Bailey and his alcoholism: you can't help those who need
help until they first recognize they have a problem and want to change.

This reminds me of something else: Tracey Gold, who as Carol on "Growing Pains"
was teased by her tv brothers (Kirk Cameron and Jeremy Miller) for being
overweight. She later became bulimic.
