I spent most of the day yesterday making my all day spaghetti sauce. Started
about noon and it was ready by about 6 pm or so. Could have cooked it longer
but we were starving.
Watched a couple of neat movies over the w/e. One was the original version of
"The Bad Seed" What a load of fun that movie is! Would love to see a version of
that starring Starr. Could be quite fun i think. The ending is fantastic- but i
won't give anything away heh heh.
Also watched a really great one woman show called "God Said Ha!". It is by
Julia Sweeney who some of you probably remember from SNL as the gender ambigous
character Pat. The one woman show talks about the year both she and her brother
were diagnosed with cancer. It is quite touching and poignant while being
hilarious at times. Really great show. Check on Independant Film Channel for
it.
Anyhoo- Happy Monday to all here in our gang and thanks again for the nice
posts to come back to.
Cheers,
Monkey ~:oP

Do you like old horror, Eddie? If so, I might have some
recommendations for you. :)

I've heard about Sweeney's show. Heard a lot of good things about it,
actually. I'll have to check it out.

Stop by and vote in the latest Poll of the Moment! Who do YOU think
was the most annoying TV personality of the 2003-2004 television
season? Was it the cast of "Friends"? Cocky "American Idol" hopeful
Fantasia Borrino? Maybe it was "Boston" Rob? Vote now!

Depends on what it is. I prefer the 80's type of horror flicks and a handful of
newer stuff- but i always LOVE to go with camp value. This movie had it in
abundance. The scenery chewing and over acting were a hoot to watch. If you
like the older schlocky stuff- be sure to try to find "Spider Baby" and
"Homicidal". Great B-flick fare.

Yeah. It got raves. Good show. If you dont have IFC where you are- it is on dvd
and video. I wasn't neseccarily a big JS fan before this- but after watching
God Said Ha! i just adore her now.

Hmmm. Then, I think you might dig these recommendations, assuming you
haven't seen them already. :)
Black Christmas - Technically, this was from the 1970's -- 1974, to be
exact... but it's still a great thriller. Not a lot of gore in this
one. Just a lot of good, old fashioned suspense and fright. You'll
see a lot of horror elements in this movie that inspired later movies.
He Knows You're Alone - This 1980 flick is an almost direct ripoff of
John Carpenter's Halloween, right down to the background music. It's
still pretty good. There are some elements of camp but, all in all,
it's a great thriller. The storyline revolves around a psycho who's
been killing soon-to-be-married women. Look for a very young Tom
Hanks in a supporting role. I believe this was his first movie.
Night of the Lepus - This is another gem from the 1970's but it's tres
campy. It's about giant rabbits that attack a town. I'm not making
this up. It's hilarious, LOL. I'm surprised they never showed this
flick on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Sleepaway Camp - Quite possibly the most shocking (and out of this
world) ending to a movie EVER. Worth the price of a rental for the
ending alone. I can guarantee you that! :)
Enjoy!

Ahhh yes. I know it well. Great flick! Also known as "Silent Night, Evil Night"
as well as "Stranger in the House". Pretty suspenseful. Also has a very young
Margot Kidder from back before her Lois Lane days. Haven't seen it in a while-
but you mentioning it makes me wanna ring my video store and see if they have
it.
(the ending was really spooky too)

Yep! Know that one too. Another good 80's b-flick. There were so many of them
back then! Ahh, those were the days <bg>. Tom Hanks is so young in that one as
well. Interesting to see him in that kind of movie considering how his career
turned out since.

I've heard of this but have not seen it. Might have to give it a look. Sounds
hilarious. Reminds me of Monty Python with the killer rabbit thing LOL. And i
do love some MST 3000 myself. They got to where they kept running the same ones
over and over so i've seen most of them. We caught part of another one this
weekend that would be fabulous on MST "Attack of the Puppet People". God- it
was so bad it was great!! LOL They could have alot of fun with that one in MST.

Saw it years ago and forgot most of it- but i do recall the twist at the end.
That is actually considered now to be a great cult classic. A re-watch for me
might be in order soon.
Thanks for these Rob. You and i have very similar tatses in these types of
flicks it seems.
Hey- ever see "Hell Night" with Linda Blair? That is a great piece of fun
schlock as well. Ooo- and "The House on Sorority Row" i got on dvd last Xmas.
Fun stuff. They just don't make 'em like that much anymore.
OMG!!!! Giant RABBITS?????? This caught me so off guard, I just busted out
laughing. I mean, come on......how scarry can Bugs Bunny be??? Who comes up
with these ideas??? Poor kids that had little pet bunnies that saw this.

Well, Mr. Monkey, you just REALLY impressed the hell out of me. :)
You're the second person I've ever met who has actually HEARD of this
movie. No one I know has ever seen this gem.
Actually, when I first saw it, I didn't know what the hell it was. I
saw it about two or three years ago when I was as sick as a dog. I
was up late, surfing through the various channels, when, poof, I found
this movie. I caught it about fifteen minutes in so I didn't catch a
title or anything. I loved the movie, though... but it took me almost
two years to find out what it was! :)
The only noteworthy scene that I could fully recall afterwards was the
house mother's death... so I went all over the place, trying to get
help in IDing the movie. I posted on Newsgroups, visited websites,
etc. Couldn't find a dang thing for two years! Then, by some stroke
of luck, Joe Bob Briggs of all people (horror movie historian who used
to have his own movie block on TBS or TNT) saw one of my message board
postings and e-mailed me. He helped me ID the flick. :)
And, you're right. The ending is spooky. Scared the crap out of my
Stephanie when I first showed her the flick two Christmases ago. :)

I know. I'm going crazy trying to find this movie on tape right now.
I'd love to burn it onto DVD and add it to my horror DVD collection.
None of the stores have it, though. Everyone has told me that it's
out of print and to try eBay. I may just do that...

It's funny that you should mention "Hell Night". I believe that was
the first horror movie I ever watched. I can still remember watching
it with my grandmother late one night. She was so afraid that the
decapitation scene would scare me but I guess I was a sick little six
year old. I thought it was cool. :)

Glad to have impressed you. I have been a huge movie buff since i was a toddler
and i spent many adult years managing a video store. There may be alot of
things i do not know about- but movies are my speciality. If you ever have
trouble trying to figure out a movie in the future- feel free to give me a
holler. I have this weird little computer chip in my brain for useless movie
stuff like that LOL

I saw it at the drive in when i was a kid. Used to beg my mother or anyone i
could to take me to horror flicks at the drive in. Loved them very much. I
*think* i saw it with this really cheesy rip off of "The Exorcist" and
"Rosemary's Baby" called "Beyond the Door". It was Italian and really cheesy-
but it had the woman from Nanny and the Professor in it who is now on Passions
(Juliette Mills i think?). Now THAT one scared the hell out of me- but to see
it as an adult it's pretty bad LOL

Ahh. too bad you're not in San Francisco. We have a bunch of really fantastic
video stores that have just about anything and everything you could want. And
some you didn't even know existed on video. One of them is way across town from
me which is a shame... so i hardly ever make it over there. I could have sworn
i had seen it released on dvd- but could be wrong. I'm sure you have checked
Amazon- but if not.. give it a looksee. Good luck finding it.

Cute. It is still a fun movie and holds up. I got that on dvd too and the
commentary from Linda Blair on some of the behind the scenes antics is really
funny. I am always ready to talk movies. Once you get me started- it's hard to
stop me <g>. But my "other half" will be home soon so i reckon i will need to
go pretend i've been busy today LOL

OMG. Pat!!! I absolutely adored her. Who knew she made a film. And
lately, I have been really enjoying the IFC channel. I watched a film about
two weeks ago about a gay couple. It was SO good. But, I didn't see the

Oh, second day spaghetti sauce is better than day one! And by the third night-
it was way too dee-lish! Every batch i make is a little different because i
dont measure much- i just eyeball my ingredients and guestimate on how much of
what to add. This was one of my best batches yet! Or at least Gary says.
Usually i get a bit heavy handed on the crushed red peppers and he doesn't like
it quite so spicy- but i do heh heh. Like to make beads of sweat pop out on my
forehead. But this one was a bit more mellow and very yummy.
Still have not tried the chili recipe. I need to locate it in my old mails and
have Gary print it out again. The printed copy i had before is in a box
SOMEwhere around here. And yeah-- i still have a bunch of stuff in boxes. Jeez-
hard to believe it has been almost a year (next week) that we moved.

Nah.. it's an oldie- but very much a goodie. I know you dont like old flicks-
but if you catch it on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) give it a look. It is not so
much scary as it is campy and a bit suspenseful. About a angelic looking little
murderous brat from hell!! LOL Complete with blonde braided pig tails and all.
It is from 1956- so probably not up your alleay. Here is a link to read about
it if you wish:

Yeah.. it was a one woman stage show they filmed for theatrical release. But
she has done some small bit parts in other films. She is in Pulp Fiction (for
one scene- and you'd barely recognize her) after they clean up the brains and
gore from the back of the car and Harvey Keitel takes it to a body shop for
parts- she is the woman he talks to and says she is a 'character' and she
leaves with him. Just a tiny part.
I do love my IFC! Sometimes indi films are just so much better than the over
produced Hollywood crap. Not everything on there is dark Tell Joe he is missing
out LOL Also i love my Sundance channel. They are another indi film station.
Good stuff!
