'Northern Exposure' Cast: Where Are They Now?

The summer has traditionally been a time when television reverts to reruns and an occasional
fill-in series that rarely runs beyond Labor Day. In 1990, however, CBS premiered a new
comedy-drama show that was definitely not the run-of-the-mill summertime fare. In fact,
'Northern Exposure' was a pioneer in many ways, ushering in the era of dramedy -- the blend
of drama and comedy -- that is so popular today.
From the moment it debuted on July 12, 1990, until it ended its run on July 26, 1995, 'Northern
Exposure' was something special, and a large part of that success was due to the cast. The show
was a launching pad for some of the younger actors, and a showcase for many others. On the
anniversary of the show's premiere, we decided to catch up with the cast.

There was a Leave It To Beaver movie?

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.

One of the many late 1990s/early 2000s "60s Show to Feature Film"
abominations. (See also: McHale's Navy, The Beverly Hillbillies, The
Wild Wild West, and I Spy.)

Hmm, wonder how I managed to see nothing about it?

McHale is ... almost okay. What the reality of the film is, given that
it seems to be an entirely alternate adventure but then the original
McHale shows up at the end, I can't imagine.
Hillbillies ... well cast, director was an idiot. She actually booted
the doorbell joke!
Wild Wild West (no 'the') is a crime against humanity. There's one good
shot in the entire thing ... a beauty fly-around the train while they
play the original theme.
I Spy I still haven't seen a frame of.

You got lucky?

The original McHale was supposed to be the father of the McHale in the
movie (which was set in the modern day at the time of the film. I
didn't think it was a great movie, but then again the TV series was no
great shakes either.

It was worse than McHale's Navy, I thought. Owen Wilson was totally
the wrong choice to play the professional agent half of the couple.

I can't remember any publicity for that movie either.

She was local talent in the Seattle area, I think, not really a
"Hollywood" actress. She didn't plan to audition for Northern
Exposure, she was just accompanying her mother who was (her mother
ended up playing Marilyn's mother in several episodes.)
Also, "Ruth-Ann" died several years ago. She too was local talent.
Marilyn and Ruth-Ann weren't planned to be major recurring characters,
just background and 'bit part' roles. But the characters and actresses
clicked.
It's kinda annoying that Mike The Bubble Boy got a "where are they
now" but Ruth-Ann and Marilyn (much more central to the show) got
nothing.

Right, but everybody else in the film had the name of a crewmember from
the original; that's tough to explain second generation.
Yep, almost as confusing as the second half of "Bewitched". Almost.

I really like this show, too bad the guy playing the doctor thought
he was going to be a big Hollywood star and bailed on the show,
as it sucked after that.
> Janine Turner
Seems she played Shevaun Tillman in "Tai-Pan" but I don't remember
her being in that at all, then again I haven't seen the movie for
years.
Also, I'm surprised there isn't any hate directed at her in this
thread.
Rec.arts.tv must not be aware that she's a Rightwinger.
