Music Help Requested: Artist Names
Night Hawk
Over the years, I have made all of my NX music freely available to anyone
who asked for it.
I am really trying to finish this project up.
Not counting the songs that don't appear on any list anywhere, I have this
list that I don't know who performed the music. If I knew the performer I
might have a better chance of finding it.
If you happen to already have the song, PLEASE let me know!
The season and episode is written behind each title.
If there really is a collective effort, we can bring the song list from NX
to over 400 available tunes!

Gracenote is the worlds most comprehensive music information database and
it's FREE to use. You can go here and search through 804,998 CDs (23,336,261
songs) by artist name, album or song title. This site is a great help in
cataloging your music collection.

Thanks, I do know about gracenote, and have used similar services in the
past. Part of the problem is that I am quite sure at this point the names
are not spelled correctly which then makes it extra hard to find.
But I know there are pickers of nits in this group who are more "absolute"
minded than I am, and will either recognize the song from the episode or the
title and will get me a proper spelling.
Too often you can get a song with the right title only to find that a
different version of the same song was used on the show.
And of course there are those who have a great memory and will know a genre
or two and know the song and the version used in the show right off the bat.
Especially for those show tunes.

I've been so interested in finding out about all the music in NX and
have a whole section in my collection dedicated to NX. I think so much
of it is from albums that are so hard to find. I know I have Bud and
Travis on LP and that has "Bon Soir Dame" and "Truly Do" which were used
alot in the first season or so. Maybe looking at out of print sites is
the way to go. Some of the instrumentals could be from David Schwartz.
I've been so curious about "Tea with Alice." It's used like crazy in the
first two or so seasons and I heard it in a commercial also. So I don't
think that's Schwartz. You'd think there'd be a way to find out all of
these through the people who did the music. Anyway to contact those
people? I mean I know for Moosefest Dan Dusek comes for the locations so
there must be a way to get in contact with the people who did the shows
music.
I checked into the song being played in the bus after they bowled and
the music guide says it's a group called "Kukuruza" but that's out of
print and they're from Russia. Some music I believe could be regional
artists and that's very hard to find.
The one I see called Guitar Ray is Guitar Rag by Sylvester Weaver and on
a compilation called Bottles, Knives and Steel.
I always wonder about the instrumentals when they're in Holling's Still.
Sounds like a slide guitar or dobro.
Bettie Serveert, Kids Are Allright shouldn't be hard to find. I use to
have that. Could be out of print, who knows.
Hopefully someone can track down the people who did the shows music and
we could finally get a complete list. It has to be possible in this age
of technology.

I have found a lot of outdated songs converted to CD via the Asian route.
I usually can download them in the very late / early hours.

As I mentioned in response to Meg, from the early days of the Northern
Exposure discussion groups, there are a handful of people who have the
entire collection cataloged. I sure wish I could find one of those people!

I have had good luck with international artists, but didn't/don't know all
the names and titles.

Thanks! For the correction! That will make finding it a lot easier!
If a few more people would help in this way, I might be able to finish this
project this year!

With my memory, and no point of reference, it doesn't even ring a bell. It
might have been filler or part of another song.
When you look at Seoul Mates, the amount of music is out of this world.
Only snippets were used and heard but in my collection the entire songs are
there. If they had played all the songs completely, there would have been
no dialog!

I've gotten songs from 1933 that were out of print, but around the world,
people have been hoarding music for a long time. Some polite requests has
yeilded great results.

You would certainly think so, which is why I returned to plead my case
again. It only takes a few people familiar with search and copy techniques
working towards a common goal.
