Jack Black to host Nickelodeon Awards
Kids' Choice ceremony airs March 29th
By MICHAEL SCHNEIDER
Black
Jack Black is back as the host of this year's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice
Awards.
Black, who emceed the event in 2006, will lead the 21st annual event
-- dubbed the "mini-Oscars" by the cabler -- on March 29.
The kudofest, which will be held this year at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion,
gives the channel's young viewers a chance to award their favorite
film, music, TV and sports stars.
"Kids adore Jack, and his energy and unpredictability are a perfect
fit for the KCA," said Marjorie Cohn, exec VP of development and
original programming at Nickelodeon.
Black stars in the upcoming feature "Be Kind, Rewind."
"Shrek the Third" leads all Kids Choice Awards nominees with four,
including Favorite Animated Movie and three in the Favorite Animated
Movie Voice category (Mike Meyers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy).
Favorite movie nominees include "Alvin and the Chipmunks," "Are We
Done Yet?," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" and
"Transformers," while TV show nominees include "Drake & Josh," "Hannah
Montana," "iCarly" and "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody."

I'm extremely surprised that Jamie-Lynn Spears would be nominated for
anything considering the current controversy over her being pregnant.
Nickelodeon better pray that she doesn't come close to winning unless
they want an ever bigger PR nightmare on their hands.
As for nominee "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody", it stinks. You would have
to be a 9 year old, sugar-coma induced, ritalin chomping child to see
anything remotely close to quality in that stinker. I only check it for the
hotties.

I don't see that supposed "controversy" as much of a problem for
Nickelodeon. That story has quietly gone away.
Funny, there's nothing for High School Musical 2. The most-watched
entertainment show in cable TV history doesn't get any nods?
"I rode the Hasslehoff!" - SpongeBob, in the SpongeBob SquarePants
Movie
He's a monster. He loves flowers. See Henry's Garden, and vote for
it on IMDB!

No "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"?

No surprise there ("Meet the Robinsons" (a) would make two Disney
movies, and (b) would mean either The Simpsons Movie or one of the
movies with a "favorite voice" nominee would be left out).
>Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie
>Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona, Shrek the Third)
>Mike Meyers (Shrek, Shrek the Third)

What, no token "for the movie" nominations (that is, nominating
somebody that kids may not recognize but they'll vote for them just
because of the movie - Susan Sarandon for "Rugrats in Paris" and, to a
lesser extent, Ellen DeGeneres for "Finding Nemo" come to mind) for
"Ratatouille" or "The Simpsons Movie" - they could have nominated Tom
Hanks for his brief cameo in the latter?
Speaking of which, how soon before Tom Cruise calls for a Scientology
boycott of the KCAs because Nancy Cartwright (Bart/Nelson/Ralph/a few
others, "The Simpsons Movie") wasn't nominated?

What kids watch "America's Next Top Model"? I would think something
like "The Amazing Race" would be more popular with the target age
group.
>Favorite Television Actress
>Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana

>Jamie Lynn Spears/Zoey 101
>Raven-Symone/That's So Raven
Prediction: either Miley or Jamie Lynn will win, depending on whether
there are more Hannah wannabes who will do anything just to see her
for five seconds or adults pretending to be kids voting for Jamie Lynn
just to see what would happen on the show if she won (I would not put
it past somebody like Howard Stern to have his listeners do something
like this) - but in either case, this will be one of the awards given
out "offstage" (as Miley will be too busy to show up and they don't
dare take any chances of putting Jamie Lynn on a live show).

What, there aren't ANY network shows that have actors or actresses
that kids would recognize? (Okay, if you go by name, the closest is
probably Kelsey Grammer for "Back to You", which hasn't been on in
months since they didn't make that many before the strike started, but
if you include character names, I think Masi Oka (Hiro on "Heroes")
and America Ferrara (Betty on "Ugly Betty") would bring in a large
chunk of the tweenage vote.)

>SpongeBob SquarePants
With all of the newer shows CN has (how popular is "Ben 10", anyway?),
is "Ed, Edd and Eddy" the best the mysterious nominating committee can
come up with? (Reminds me of all of the years the only NFL team
nominated for "favorite sports team" was the Miami Dolphins.)
>Favorite Male Athlete
>Tony Hawk
>Shaquille O'Neal
>Alex Rodriguez
>Tiger Woods
I see the mysterious nominating committee didn't repeat the total
blunder it made last time - but I'm surprised Tony Hawk gets nominated
and Shaun White doesn't.
>Favorite Female Athlete
>Cheryl Ford
>Danica Patrick
>Serena Williams
>Venus Williams
"Cheryl Ford?" Oh, the MVP of the WNBA.
However, chances are that you put someone like Lindsey Jacobellis on
the list, and she gets more votes than the others combined.
(I'm a little surprised Venus and Serena are listed as separate
entries.)
Apparently, someone at Nickelodeon thinks extreme sports ended when
they stopped making "Rocket Power".

Er, did they just nominate a collection of comic books (the "Buffy"
title, which I assume refers to the paperback collection) as "favorite
book"?

I believe the word is "OOPS" - apparently, Miley is "busy" getting
ready to hype the upcoming Hannah Montana Movie (not the concert one;
this is the one that I assume is going to be like the Lizzie McGuire
movie and be the "last episode of the TV series", but in theaters), as
Nickelodeon has announced she will be performing at the KCAs.
And before anyone who reads this asks - no, none of us know how to get
tickets to the awards. You cannot buy them anywhere (I have been on a
mailing list that tells me all events at Pauley Pavillion that have
open ticket sales, and the KCAs have never been on them). I assume
the only ways to get them are (a) know one of the producers, (b) have
a parent who is high enough up in a radio or TV station to be able to
keep the two tickets each station can get (in exchange for advertising
the show), or (c) be lucky enough to live somewhere where a radio/TV
station decides to run a contest to see who gets their two tickets. Of
course, since Miley is going to be performing there this year, expect
fewer chances at (c) as more tickets go the way of (b).
(Maybe - MAYBE - you can go to a place like StubHub.com or even eBay
and see if anybody is selling their tickets.)
Meanwhile, I only see six names on the presenters list who are
nominated for anything, and two (Ryan Seacrest and Howie Mandel) are
in shows nominated against each other (and for some strange reason,
Heidi Klum will be there, even though "Project Runway" was not
nominated but "America's Next Top Model" was). (And if kids know who
Hayden Panettiere and America Ferrara are, why weren't they nominated
for anything?)
