In my opinon there's really nothing special about the channel to
seperate it from Nickelodeon. What is the network's focus? Which
direction does Nick want the network to go? Is Degrassi the only thing
the network has to offer? At least Disney is trying to turn ABC Family
into their own version of the former WB network but as long as it's
burdened by the family name that task is near impossible.
What TNick needs to be is a complete alternative to Nickelodeon. For
starters, no more of Zoey 101, Unfabulous, or any other Disney Channel-
esque fare. Last I checked the channel is called TeenNick not
TweenNick. The channel should be exclusively for teenagers and maybe
young adults as well. Leave the tween audience to Nickelodeon. They
should also invest in original programs exclusive to the network to
support Degrassi, only this time around give those programs time to
build an audience. Don't hastly cancel them because they don't achieve
Degrassi's success right out the gate. Finally, although their main
focus is and should be live action programming, if there's anything As
Told By Ginger and Avatar have proven, is that teenagers are just as
intrested in cartoons as children are. I say the network should also
have a few original cartoons directed at that audience, you know, a
mix of sophistaced comedy and story-driven action.
Those are my thoughts, what are yours?
