BOYCOTT HOWARD STERN

When the musical guest was on for SNL, I took a look at the Howard Stern Show,
and when they showed the closing credits, one of their street people was
talking to Chevy Chase and he said, "After the death of Phil Hartman, would you
trust having a gun in your house with your wife around?" Then Chevy said "Do
you thinks it's funny that Brynn shot Phil, then turned the gun on herself?"
then he said "I saw a few of your movies and they weren't too funny." Then
Chevy walked away pretty fast, and the guy yelled "We love ya Chevy," and
started cracking up. This time he has gone too far. He has no soul. As if it
wasn't bad enough to make fun of the death of Phil, but then he attacks Chevy
Chase too. He is so low. I used to think he wasn't that bad, but I wouldn't
watch him over SNL, but now I will do everything I can to get him off the air.
Lucky for him, though that I was probably the only person watching his show.
Thanks Chevy, you are a true friend. We both know that guy was Howard's puppet.
Howard should've axed that sketch, for one thing, when Phil was on, Brynn
wanted to be noticed so badly, that she let Howard take advantage of her, and
Brynn kissed Howard for a vile, 3 minutes and a few seconds. WE MUST BOYCOTT. I
know it seems impossible, but call, email, instant message everyone you know
and tell them what I told you. I am only 14, I am sure that if I can contact
all these people, if I can make this effort, then surely you, good people can
go the extra mile to make sure that he at least apologizes for the offense he
has brought to Phil's good name. I appreciate your time very much, in hopes
that you will boycott Howard until there is an apology. Thank you, and God
bless

Sincerely,
Sean Lawrence Meehan

PS Pass this on to everyone you know, everyone on your buddy list, and everyone
you've ever talked to. WE CAN DO THIS! DON'T JUST DELETE THIS BECAUSE YOU THINK
WE CAN'T DO IT, THAT'S THE KIND OF ATTITUDE THAT WON'T PUT A DENT IN HIS
RATINGS. Hang up a printout of this letter in your Schools, Stores, and

OK, who started the coup that overthrew the Tavie regime, or does Run DMC have
delusions of grandeur?? Or did this newsgroup become a dictatorship (or a
dicktatorship if you're going to call Amy a putz)

> He insulted a very funny,

And that is the reason why people listen to people like Howard Stern, Don
Imus, and any of the other locals who use a similar style doing their shock
jock stuff.
These people get paid inordinate amounts of money to say things that many
people would like to say, but don't have the avenue to do so. Am I defending
Howard Stern? Not really.
In response to the e-mail that you sent me when I posted Bababooey, I do
listen to him often while at work when the local sportstalk morning crapfest
meanders into the realm of complete crap. There are things that Howard or Don
do that are funny to some but make others cringe. Take Howard's comments
about Rosie O'Hypocrite (O'Donnell for the reference impaired). This is what I
was thinking, but I don't have a radio show with over 15 million listeners to
say that, but there is some pinhead who takes Stern too seriously and threatens
to kidnap the child of Rosie. If Stern made a comment about a performer that
was not as beloved by the Kings of Rap in My Adidas, would you find it funny.
I will close this post with the memorable words of the true sign of radio
suckiness, Jim Rome "Dude got rock. Dude done. Dude."

Now. . . Shock. . . and jock. . . and shock. . . and jock.

A) People MIGHT care if the information you gave didn't come with an ultimatum.
I've felt for years that Howard Stern is an ass. If anything, he's been ripping
off Steve Dahl (Chicago Radio GOD) for years. His 'bits' are trite, lame, and
pander to the lowest common denominator. He's not funny, IMHO, and his 'bit'
about Phil Hartman only confirms my belief that he is a hack who lives on being
"in your face" instead of funny. I'll defend to the death his right to say
whatever he wants, but I don't have to like it.
B) Amy probably DID read everything concerning your demand that we avoid Stern,
and is also entitled to her opinion.
C) But most importantly, you aren't going to ingratiate yourself and bring
anyone to your way of thinking by calling Amy a putz.

You putz.

This thread got me thinking: Of all the TV shows which are supposed to
take place in NYC, Newsradio may be the only one which had a character
who admits he listens to and enjoys Howard. Love him, hate him or ignore
him, the fact remains he is No.1 in the ratings for AM drive time in NYC
(among other places), so hundreds of thousands of New York residents
begin their day with Howard, Robin, Eric, Jackie and Co. Funny--it took
a show about a radio station to point out Howard's appeal.

Gotta go with Cookie Monster, especially since I date from the
antediluvian era when Snuffy was still invisible and Cookie never looked
at anything with chlorophyll.

In the constant discussion about The Electric Company, I wanted to ask the

Who remembers Hank The Crank? To this day I think Hank is probably the biggest
influence on my personality. (That, and the Richard Lewis character from
"Anything But Love".) If I'm not pissed off and complaining, I'm not happy.

<<Remember the Tom Lehrer songs for Silent E and the -ly ending?>>

NO!
I LOVE Tom Lehrer, but don't recall anything he did for The Electric Company.
Damn!

AND...does anyone know what ever happened to Tom? He recorded a few albums and
then stopped? I've even done a brief web search and was unable to find anything
out. Did he pass away? Did he go back to teaching? Help me, Obi-Ish.

Oops, not this time, Bill. In this case, it was in New Yawk City.

And then Andy asks what happened to Tom Lehrer, and I believe that I heard he
retired from the dark-humor-music thing (remember The Masochism Tango? "My
heart is in your hands --- ewwww."), but I don't know if he went back to
teaching. I have a book of his music here somewhere and I suppose it has an
update. Once I find out anything, I'll let you know.

Oh, you younger NR people would very much enjoy this guy, I think! The
references are a touch old now, but some things are just classic.

The only time I've ever given Elmo any respect was some Sunday morning a few

It was terrific. Santa Claus had decided to retire because he was getting old

Oscar was very misunderstood. He lived in a garbage can! That's an obvious
cry for help.
My mother hates Big Bird: "He's such a whiny baby." "He's so stupid."
My brother and I used to like the film "Follow That Bird," all about Big Bird
and his wacky antics. How she would guilt trip us whenever we watched it!
"'Waa waa waa' -- oh, shut UP, Big Bird!" Awful, awful.

LOL! Bert is truly ANAL RETENTIVE. There is no way to say it without caps
lock. :D But, he has a unibrow. I like his unibrow. However, Ernie lucked
out with the nicer of the two shirts.

More nostalgia: the first time I ever saw "It's a Wonderful Life" (which in no
way compares to the beauty that is the Elmo Xmas special), it was such an
epiphany to hear the names "Ernie" and "Bert." I was gawking for hours. That

He's still teaching math in a California collage. I can't remember which one.
His CDs are still available, one of them has the Electric Company songs on it.
There was a musical revue called TomFoolery in the late 70s and there's also a
book of his music called Too Many Songs by Tom Lehrer with Not Enough Drawings

Now, I'm not one of those people who thinks it's necessary to make fun of Mr.
Rogers -- 'cause I've seen little kids adore him, and I don't see anything
wrong with that -- but I do think the name McFeely is a little odd for a kid's
show.

Still, it's way cool that you hung out with him! When I was very young, my
neighbors knew Bozo's friend Nozo (this in the Boston area where we lived for a
year) so I got to go on the show, woo hoo! My little sister was chosen to play

Aw, cut it out, you guys. Shucks.

Well, imagine Moe Howard at about 120 years of age with a Moe-like wig. That is
scary for a six-year-old, for good reason, I think.

Still, it wasn't *that* scary. The worst part was that last Curly Joe guy, at
120 years old. (Larry Fine is *never* scary, no matter how old -- love Larry.)
