CBC Puts Surplus Transmission Assets Up for Sale

CBC/Radio-Canada is looking for buyers for surplus transmission assets
related to the recent shutdown of its analogue television transmission
network. The Corporation has retained, through RFP, the services of
Capital Canada Limited to manage the sales process.

The assets for sale consist of land, transmission towers, analogue
television transmission equipment, and related buildings, located at
100 different sites across the country.

On July 31, 2012, CBC/Radio-Canada shut down its analogue over-the-air
television transmission network, a measure implemented by the
Corporation to deal with a recent reduction of its parliamentary
appropriation.

A total of 607 transmitters were shutdown across Canada. Only a small
portion of the sites at which those transmitters were located are now
for sale. Many of the decommissioned transmitters were operating at
sites where the CBC/Radio-Canada was leasing space from another
company. Others are located at sites that the Corporation owns, but
will continue to use in order to broadcast radio and/or digital
television signals.

All proceeds from the sales – along with the $10 million in operating
costs that the Corporation will save as a result of the shutting down
of its transmitters – will be used to support the creation of Canadian
programming.

A list of assets is available from Capital Canada Limited. All
interested parties are asked to contact Capital Canada Limited
directly.
