02/21/14 - Former CBC British Columbia meteorologist Claire Martin, who moved to CBC Toronto in 2012, is returning to Vancouver. However, she won't be on air with CBC, as she has taken a position with a Vancouver production company. Today is her last day at CBC Toronto. She joined CBC in 2005, becoming its first-ever meteorologist, and worked at CBC Vancouver from 2007-12. CBC Toronto news/video Marc Weisblott.

Claire Martin won't be providing CBC viewers with any more forecasts after Friday, no matter how much viewers might want her to stay.
That's because she has taken a new job with a production company in Vancouver, which means she won't be on the air for CBC.
"It has been a blast," Martin said Thursday about her time at CBC.
Martin joined the CBC in 2005, becoming its first-ever meteorologist.
During her time at CBC, Martin worked in both Toronto and Vancouver.
She has spent the past 18 months working with CBC News Toronto.
Cathy Perry, the managing editor of CBC News Toronto, said that Martin made her mark with viewers long ago.
"Anyone who's done local news knows how important weather is to a program. But when Claire Martin is doing weather those segments get rock star status," Perry said.
"And the audience noticed, with big numbers during big storms. The only problem with Claire is we could never get her to function on four hours sleep and be a regular on Metro Morning."
CBC News Toronto viewers can tune in Friday to see Martin's final broadcast as the station's meteorologist.

Claire Martin, the CBC weatherwoman popular for her banter with other on-air personalities including The National anchor Peter Mansbridge, has announced that she will be leaving the public broadcaster.
One of the first meteorologists ever hired by the CBC -- as opposed to a broadcaster reciting forecasts supplied by the government -- Martin will return to her previous home of Vancouver to work in TV production.

The news was also revealed to viewers of the local 6 p.m. newscast on CBC Toronto on Thursday.
Martin, who was born in England and appeared as a child in Pink Floyd's video for "Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)," crossed the pond in 1990 for a job with Environment Canada.
Subsequently, she received a meteorology degree at the University of Alberta and moved into broadcasting after a round of government cuts.
After moving from Global TV in Edmonton to CBC in Toronto in 2005, Martin gained national recognition for her acerbic British banter on the news network -- once even wearing a "Mrs. Stroumboulopoulos" T-shirt during a forecast segment -- and was integrated into The National with Peter Mansbridge.
Martin relocated to Vancouver in 2007, then was back to Toronto in 2012, although it appears that she preferred life on the west coast based on her decision to move back there again.
