A number of our CBC colleagues have passed away in the last twelve months. The roll call tells you who we have lost and when, and supplies information concerning their CBC career.
ALAIN de GROISBOIS, former CBUF-FM Vancouver Producer in the 1970's and retired CBC Montreal Producer, passed away on January 27, 2015 at home in Montreal, Quebec. Alain was 67 years old.
EDNA CLARK (nee MacKINNON), widow of George Clark, Artist in the CBC Toronto Special Effectgs Department, passed away on January 27, 2015 in her 93rd year.
MICHAEL LARKIN who worked in Central Registry, CBC Ottawa Head Office, passed away on January 16, 2015. Michael was 67 years of age.
LYN ROZAK, widow of CBC Edmonton VTR and MCR Technician Lawrence Rozak, passed away in January 2015 (precise date unknown).
TOM GEEKIE, retired CBC Winnipeg Lighting Director/Unit Manager, passed away in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 11, 2015, ending a long battle with cancer. Tom was 78 years of age.
HARLAN HUNT, CBC Edmonton Operating Technician and Manager of TV Operations, passed away on January 7, 2015. Harlan was 72 years old.
BARBARA WALSH (nee MAGEE), formerly with CBC Ottawa Television, passed away on January 1, 2015 at the age of 84.
SHIRLEY GREENWOOD, Tom Greenwood's wife, passed away on December 29, 2014. (Tom was a Sound Effects' Operator with CBC Toronto and subsequently a Unit Manager and Executive Assistant in Television Management.) Shirley was 75 years of age.
ERNIE MUTIMER, CBC Winnipeg/Saskatoon TV Producer, passed away in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 27, 2014 in his 90th year.
JANET FOX, wife of former CBC Vancouver Film Department Director and Producer Stan Fox, passed away in Victoria, B.C. on December 27, 2014, ending a battle with cancer.
PETER LEONARD, Director of Art and Design for CFRN Television, Edmonton, passed away on December 24, 2014, age 84 years.
JOHN L. KENNEDY, former Head of CBC Network Children's Television (known affectionately by colleagues as "Tall John Kennedy"), passed away on December 21, 2014.
LEIF SORENSEN, retired CBC Toronto TV Lighting Technician, passed away on December 18, 2014 in Peterborough, Ontario. Leif died just two days before his 80th birthday.
CLIFFORD CRAWFORD, retired CBC Toronto Unit Manager, died of kidney failure in mid-December, 2014.
GRAHAM McMULLIN, retired CBC Vancouver TV News Cameraman/Line-Up Editor, passed away on November 28, 2014, the day of his 87th birthday.
PETER PETERS, retired CBC Toronto Cameraman, passed away on November 27, 2014, ending a courageous battle with cancer. He was 70 years of age.
NORMAND FONTAINE, Edmonton Radio-Canada Announcer, passed away on November 25, 2014 at 77 years of age.
MARIE TESSIER-LAVIGNE, Radio-Canada and CBC North, Montreal and Ottawa Television Producer, passed away on November 23, 2014. Marie was 90 years old.
RON THOMPSON, former CBC Vancouver TV News Cameraman, passed away in Victoria, B.C. on November 18, 2014 at 72 years of age.
IRIS PETERSON, former CBC Toronto Radio Secretary/Archives Clerk and widow of Playwright Len Peterson, passed away on November 18, 2014.
JIM MILNER, retired Supervising Lighting Technician with CBC Toronto, passed away on November 17, 2014 following a stroke.
ALAN PHILLIPS, former CBC Writer, passed away on November 16, 2014 after a lengthy battle with dementia. He was 98 years of age.
CONRAD DION, former Technical Instructor, CBC Ottawa, passed away on November 11, 2014. Conrad was 88 years old.
JOHN (SEAN) McGOLDRICK, CBC Montreal and Halifax Radio Editor-in-Charge/News Producer for the English Radio News Division, passed away on November 3, 2014 in Canmore, Alberta. He was 92 years of age.
SCOTT JACKSON, CBC Edmonton/Windsor/TSN TV Audio, ENG Camera, and Local Union Officer, passed away on November 3, 2014, ending a courageous battle against cancer. He was 57 years old.
GEOFF GORDON, retired Assistant Vice-President of Programming, CBC Head Office, Ottawa, passed away on November 2, 2014. Geoff was 91 years of age.
KATHLEEN (KAY) ANNE MEGGS, wife of Peter Meggs (retired CBC Ottawa Area Director), passed away on October 29, 2014.
REBECCA "ANN" SADLEMYER, wife of deceased long time CBC Regina Radio Announcer Kay Sadlemyer, passed away on October 28, 2014. She was 75 years old.
GRETA HOPPE, widow of Eric Hoppe (Sound Engineer, Outside Broadcast Film, CBC Toronto) passed away on October 28, 2014 at the age of 97.
GORDON HARRISON, retired CBC Ottawa Lighting Maintenance Technician, passed away on October 22, 2014 in British Columbia. Gordon was 87 years old.
LEN KILMARTIN, retired Technician, CBC Ottawa, passed away on October 18, 2014. Len was 84 years of age.
PAUL WATERS, former Writer/Lineup Editor/TV Producer with CBC Toronto and TV Producer/Executive Producer with CBC Vancouver, passed away in Montreal, Quebec on October 14, 2014 at age 67.
CLAIRE FIRTH (nee GORDON/LENTINI), former CBC Vancouver Personnel/Finance/Design Clerk, passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2014, a few days after undergoing minor surgery. Claire was 72 years old.
MIKE WINLAW, former CBC Vancouver Host of "Hourglass" from 1970-1976, passed away in his sleep in Kelowna, B.C. on September 20, 2014.
BOB CARTY, CBC Toronto and Ottawa Reporter/Radio Documentary Producer, passed away in Ottawa on September 21, 2014 from esophageal cancer at 64 years of age.
DAVID CANDOW, CBC Producer/Trainer, passed away in St. John's, Nfld., on September 18, 2014 at 74 years of age.
STU CUPPAGE, CBC Toronto Producer/Director/Programmer, passed away on September 16, 2014. Stu was 82 years old.
JOHN BASSETT, retired CBC Documentary Film Producer, passed away in Port Hope, Ontario on September 15, 2014, age 93 years.
DON WATERSTON, retired CBC Vancouver ENG/EFP Cameraman/Supervisor ENG/EFP, founding President of CBC Pensioners' National Association, Past President and Vice-President of the British Columbia and Yukon CBC Pensioners' Regional Association, and long-time Board member of the CBC 20 Year Association - B.C. Chapter, passed away on September 4, 2014. Don was 74 years old.
MAGGIE MORRIS, former CBC Toronto "Flashback" Cast Member and Announcer, passed away on September 4, 2014 at 88 years of age.
PETER STURSBERG, former CBC Correspondent, passed away on August 31, 2014 on this 101st birthday. Peter was the first Correspondent to cover the Canadian troops in action during the Second World War.
LOIS MARTIN, retired CBC Vancouver Assistant Business Manager, passed away at home in Abbotsford, B.C. on August 31, 2014, ending a long and courageous battle against ovarian cancer. Lois was 69 years of age.
BOB MCKAY, retired CBC Winnipeg and Edmonton Radio Operator and Traffic Supervisor, passed away on August 30, 2014. He was 86 years old.
JOHN PATACAIRK, retired CBC/SRC Ottawa Senior TV Technician, passed away on August 29, 2014 at age 82.
JIM BAUGH, retired CBC Vancouver Radio News Supervisor, passed away on August 29, 2014. Jim was 89 years of age.
DREW HUTTON, husband of Marcy Hutton (CBC Edmonton staffer in telephone support for Information Technology [IT] and then in TV Sales), passed away on August 18, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
JENNIE LOWE, widow of Ken Lowe (CBC Vancouver TV Technical Producer and Supervisor of Technical Operations), passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2014. Jennie was 86 years old.
MARGUERITE WICKS, widow of Walter Wicks (CBC Halifax/Toronto Cameraman/Cinematographer and Founding President, Ontario Region CBC Pensioners' Association), passed away on August 6, 2014. Marg was 87 year of age.
CLARENCE McLAREN, retired Financial Analyst, CBC Pension Fund, Ottawa, passed away on August 2, 2014, age 92.
DAVE MALLES, CBC Ottawa Staging staff, passed away suddenly on August 2, 2014. Dave was 66 years of age.
BILL DAVIS, retired CBC Network Television Producer/Director, passed away on July 28, 2014. Bill was just a few days shy of his 82nd birthday.
PAUL ST. PIERRE, writer, author and columnist, passed away on July 27, 2014 at age 90. Paul was the inspiration behind and script writer for the CBC Vancouver-produced television series Cariboo Country in 1960 and again from 1964 to 1967.
TOMI KURODA, retired CBC Toronto Graphics' Department Receptionist, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2014.
JOHN McCALLUM, founding scriptwriter for the CBC Television Network Children's program Razzle Dazzle, passed away on July 7, 2014. John was 90 years of age.
HUGH DAVIDSON, former CBC Montreal Radio Producer/Supervisor of Music, Music Co-Ordinator and CBC Network Radio Assistant Program Director, passed away on July 14, 2014. He was 84 years old.
ANN BOLSBY, widow of Peter Bolsby (NABET Executive and CBC Toronto Automated Control Facilities Technician) passed away on July 14, 2014 after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.
THERESA (TERRY) JONES, wife of deceased Bill Jones (CBC Winnipeg and Edmonton Finance Departments), passed away suddenly on July 11, 2014 at age 82.
NORMAND (NORM) BERUBE, CBC Ottawa Staging retiree, passed away on July 6, 2014 at the age of 88.
KEN BUHR, former CBC Vancouver Commercial Sales Manager, passed away early in July, 2014.
GRENVILLE (GREN) MARSH passed away on June 30, 2014. Gren's countless assignments with CBC Winnipeg included being Weatherman for the 24 Hour TV Evening News and host of the radio programme As Yet Un-named Saturday Morning Radio Program (AYUNSMURP for short) as well as host of numerous fiddle contests recorded throughout the Province of Manitoba. He was 89 years old.
ALF SPENCE, retired CBC Vancouver Radio Technician, passed away on June 23, 2014 at age 89.
JIM GUNN, former CBC Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan Master Control Technician and Supervising Technician, passed away on June 6, 2014. Jim was 70 years old.
KNOWLTON NASH, veteran CBC Journalist, passed away on May 24, 2014. Knowlton was 86 years of age.
JACK McANDREW, former CBC Network Head of TV Variety Programming, passed away on May 23, 2014. He was 81 years old.
BOB HARVEY, former CBOT Ottawa News Director, passed away on May 22, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
BARRY MICHALYSHYN, former CBC Toronto/Vancouver Radio-Canada and English Services' Radio Broadcast Technician, passed away mid-May, 2014 at 57 years of age.
ED McCARTHY, retired CBC Winnipeg Lighting & Maintenance Technician, passed away on May 13, 2014. Ed was 80 years of age.
ROSS "ROSCOE" KENWARD, former CBC Vancouver Cameraman, passed away in New Zealand on May 11, 2014 ending a brief but fierce battle with cancer.
BOB WARNER, husband of CBC Vancouver retiree Sharie Stear, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 10, 2014 at their home in Lone Butte, B.C.
BRAD DIX, retired CBC Toronto Manager of Training and Development, passed away on May 9, 2014. Brad was 73 years old.
VINCENT TOVELL, retired CBC Toronto Producer/Writer/Performer, passed away on May 6, 2014 at age 92.
BOB GOUDIE, CBC Saskatoon and Regina TV Technician, passed away on May 5, 2014. Bob's father, Garry Goudie, did Studio Camera, Lighting and Technical producing with CBC Edmonton in the 1960s and was later CBC Technical Services and Plant Manager for Saskatchewan until he passed away in the late 1980s. Bob's passing ended his battle with cancer. He was 52 years of age.
ED MADILL, retired CBC Vancouver Design Department employee, passed away on May 1, 2014 just 19 days short of his 84th birthday. Ed started his CBC career as a Stagehand and rose to be Scenic Construction Crewleader.
GEORGE CLEMENTS, retired CBC Toronto Cameraman, passed away on April 29, 2014, one month shy of his 80th birthday.
MALDWYN "TAFFY" BURROUGH, retired CBC Toronto Staging Crewleader, passed away on April 28, 2014. He was 84 years old.
JOAN HAGERTY, wife of retired CBC Toronto Camera Operator Ron Hagerty, passed away on April 25, 2014 in her 86th year.
ROBERT (BOB) McLEAN, renowned talk show Host for 60 years with CBC Radio and Television, passed away April 22, 2014 at the age of 81 due to complications from heart disease.
ROD CLARK passed away on April 22, 2014 at the age of 90. Rod was retired from CBC in Ontario after 39 years as a Chief Engineer.
MIKE LAVOIS, former Producer with The Fifth Estate, passed away suddenly on April 20, 2014. He was 71 years of age.
DOLORES MacFARLANE, retired CBC Producer/Manager (Winnipeg, Edmonton, Regina), passed away on April 19, 2014. Dolores was 88 years of age.
LEROY ASHLEY passed away on April 17, 2014, ending a lengthy illness. Leroy was with TV Maintenance, CBC Winnipeg, predominently in the VTR area.
CONNIE MASTERS, retired staffer with P.R. Assistance - Audience Relations, CBC Toronto, passed away suddenly on April 17, 2014. She was 87 years old.
JOHN FURLONG, CBNT St. John's, Nfld., Journalist, passed away on April 16, 2014. He was 63 years of age.
DOUG STUART passed away on April 12, 2014. He was a Maintenance Engineer with CBC Moose Jaw and later Switcher in Moose Jaw and then with the Regina mobile unit. Doug was 66 years old.
HENNING VON BREDOW passed away on April 9, 2014 at age 84 ending a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Henning was an Audio Technician with CBC Toronto for many years on the Tommy Hunter Show among others and later with TV News.
DON NICOLLE passed away on April 8, 2014. Don's CBC career was in Halifax and Newfoundland as Public Relations Manager and lateras Manager, Human Resources. He was 84 years old.
JOHN PLATT, former CBC Labour Relations Officer, passed away in Ottawa, Ontario on April 7, 2014. He was 85 years of age.
HEATHER MATHESON passed away in Vancouver on April 6, 2014 just two days shy of her 65th birthday after a long battle with Melanoma. Heather was a CBC Vancouver TV Producer with The Best Years in the late 1980's and in the early 1990's.
BRIAN SLEMMING, retired CBC Winnipeg/Ottawa Northern Svce./Toronto/Sydney, N.S. Commentator, Producer and Manager, passed away on April 4, 2014 in Cobourg, Ontario of glioblastoma brain cancer, aged 78.
ROBERT ABRAHAM, retired CBC Toronto Television Executive in TV News & Current Affairs and in TV Drama, passed away on April 3, 2014 at age 73.
PEGGY MORRISEY, with the A&E Department CBC Toronto, passed away on April 2, 2014 in St. John's, Nfld where she had returned following retirement. Peggy was 71 years of age.
EDIE WHITE, wife of Bill White (retired CBC Plant Manager Calgary/Director of Radio Edmonton/Regional Director Saskatchewan and Head of Regional Broadcasting Operations), passed away on March 24, 2014 at 76 years of age.
BOCA (BOB) SRECKOVIC, retired CBC Toronto TV Technician who worked on hockey and other big events, passed away on March 21, 2014.
PHILIP QUAN, retired CBC Toronto Graphic Artist, passed away on March 8, 2014. Philip was 85 years old.
ROY SMITH, former CBC Announcer in Germany, passed away on March 6, 2014. Roy was 77 years of age.
GORD GRAHAM passed away in Ontario on February 27, 2014. Gord was a Senior Maintenance Technician in Engineering (Transmitters) with CBC Ottawa until his retirement. He was 76 years of age.
ROSALIND ORCHARD, widow of CBC Radio Producer Imbert Orchard, passed away on February 23, 2014 in Vancouver, B.C. Rosalind was 96 years old.
TOM MILLAR, retired CBC Ottawa/Toronto Manager of Purchasing & Supply, passed away in Ontario on February 23, 2014 at the age of 102.
SIMONE FABRE, Radio Canada Ottawa, French TV Administrative Assistant, passed away on February 21, 2014 .
JEAN CHOQUETTE, retired Co-Ordinator, Quality Control and Technical Implementation, CBC EHQ Montreal, passed away on February 19, 2014 . Jean was 81 years of age.
DON DASHNEY, retired CBC EHQ Montreal Chief Broadcast Engineer, passed away in Ottawa, Ontario on February 12, 2014 at age 85.
PETER DESBARATS, CBC Program Host/Journalist/Writer and former Dean of the University of Western Ontario's Graduate School of Journalism, passed away in London, Ontario on February 11, 2014 . He was 81 years of age.
PETER HAWORTH, writer/actor, passed away in North Vancouver, B.C. on February 10, 2014. Peter was 86 years old.
DIANE LEGAULT MAGUIRE, wife of Bernard Maguire (retired CBC Ottawa Cameraman), passed away on January 31, 2014 at 70 years of age.
MARCELLE MILLER, Assistant in the Ottawa office of the CBC Pensioners' National Association and retired CBC H.O. Industrial Relations Manager, passed away on January 31, 2014. Marcelle was 72 years old.
CAM LANE passed away on January 30, 2014 at age 78. Cam was an Announcer with CFTK Terrace in the 1960's and with CFPR AM Radio in Prince Rupert in the early 1970's before become a CBUT Sports Reporter. As Campbell Lane, he had credit in over 90 movie and TV productions including MacGyver, X Files, Da Vinci's Inquest, The Dead Zone and Scary Movie 4.
MICHAEL BARRONWRIGHT, who was with TV Sales, CBC Regina from 1985 to 2009, passed away on January 30, 2014. He was 60 years of age.
RAY ST-SAUVEUR, retired CBC Toronto Televison Audio Technician, passed away on January 25, 2014. Ray was dedicated to keeping CBC colleagues connected and created a wide e-mail distribution list to do so. He was 77 years old.
MAURICE CRUSE, long-time CBC Calgary Cameraman, passed away on January 21, 2014 at the age of 78.
ED (EDDIE) VAAR, retired CBC Toronto Cameraman, passed away in that city on January 18, 2014.
DICK LAMBERT, retired CBC Toronto Art Director, passed away on January 15, 2014. He was 90 years old.
LEW DAVIE, retired CBC Toronto/Vancouver Maintenance Technician, passed away on Vancouver Island, B.C. on January 14, 2014. Lew was 76 years of age.
MERV CATHERS, retired CBC Winnipeg VTR Technician, passed away on January 14, 2014.
LARRY D. MANN, veteran actor and one of the original performers on CBC Television, passed away on January 6, 2014 at the age of 91. He was the warm-up person for Front Page Challenge, voiced the character Yukon Cornelius in the animated Christmas favourite Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and was Cap'n Scuttlebutt on the Canadian version of Howdy Doody. He appeared in more than 20 movies including The Sting and In the Heat of the Night, and countless TV series including Gunsmoke, Bewitched, Hogan's Heroes, Green Acres and Hill Street Blues.
ANNA CAMERON, actress and broadcaster, passed away in Nova Scotia on January 5, 2014. Anna was the host of CBC's Take 30 and Man Alive and made frequent guest appearances on Front Page Challenge. She was 87 years of age.
GLADY JACKSON, widow of CBC Vancouver Television News retiree Les Jackson, passed away on December 25, 2013 at age 90. Les Jackson was for many years Secretary of the B.C. Chapter of the CBC 20 Year Association and Glady was a steadfast supporter of the Association and its members in those years and continuing after his death in 1998.
JANICE FAIRLEY-GOUGEON, wife of Andy Gougeon (retired CBC Ottawa Radio Technician), passed away on December 25, 2013. She was 76 years old.
MARGARET MEIKLE, CBC Radio contributor, passed away in Vancouver, B.C. on December 21, 2013 at age 57. She was best known for her participation in the Vicky Gabereau Show where among other roles, she was the "Answer Lady".
JEAN JEMISON, retired CBC Manager, passed away in Toronto, Ontario on December 21, 2013 at age 81.
BETTY McDONALD, widow of CBC Vancouver Engineering Supervisor Bob McDonald, passed away on December 17, 2013. Betty was 94 years of age.
STAN QUIN, retired Head of the ODD Department, EHQ Montreal, passed away in Oshawa, Ontario on December 11, 2013. He was 89 years old.
CRAIG McLEOD, CBC Edmonton Cameraman - English and French Services, passed away on December 7, 2013.
WARREN WILSON, Actor/Musician/CBC Toronto Producer/Writer/Program Host, passed away on December 4, 2013 at age 76.
BILL MORHAM, former CBC Winnipeg Legislative TV Reporter, passed away on November 30, 2013. He was 73 years of age.
WALTER CHYZEK, CBC Edmonton Radio Technician who was also very active in the NABET Union, passed away on November 19, 2013. Walter was 77 years old.
JACK COOK, former CBC Ottawa vocalist, passed away early in November, 2013. Jack was 91 years old.
RICHARD BEATON, retired CBN/CBNT Newfoundland Announcer and Program Host, passed away on November 17, 2013. He was 68 years old.
DAGG OVERGAARD, former CBC Vancouver Television Producer, passed away on November 13, 2013 just a few weeks shy of his 82nd birthday. Dagg had produced the 7 O'Clock Show among others.
VIRGINIA BAWLF, formerly with CBC in Victoria, Whitehorse and Quebec City, passed away on November 11, 2013 at 58 years of age. Virginia was one of the Original Seven - the team that launched On The Island when CBC Victoria went on the air in 1998.
GERRY BAVINGTON, CBC Toronto Radio retiree and organizer of CBC Toronto retirees' monthly luncheon under the banner "The Chowder Club", passed away on November 1, 2013. Gerry was 76 years of age.
KEN MEEKER, writer/broadcast journalist with CBC St. John's, Newfoundland, passed away in that city on October 28, 2013. Ken was 83 years old.
JACK RUTHERFORD, former contract Director/Producer with CBC Toronto, passed away on October 28, 2013. During his career with CBC, he produced obituaries for TV News and worked on The Nature of Things. He was 83 years old.
TERRY DOLAN, retired CBC Vancouver TV News Reporter, passed away on October 28, 2013 at age 79.
VICKY ADAMS, former CBC Saskatoon Assistant to the Station Manager, passed away on October 18, 2013 at age 66.
WALTER WICKS, retired CBC Halifax/Toronto Cameraman/Cinematographer, passed away on September 26, 2013. In retirement, Walter was Founding President of the Ontario Region, CBC Pensioners' National Association from 1999 to 2004 and he also started what is now the Region's "Livewire" newsletter. Walter was 85 years old.
SURENDER PAHWA, former member of CBC Ottawa's Finance Staff and CBC Credit Union Board, passed away on September 24, 2013.Surender was 74 years of age.

DR. DONALD LOW, husband of former CBC Ottawa Reporter Maureen Taylor, passed away on September 18, 2013 at age 68.
JIM ANDERSON, retired CBC Edmonton/Winnipeg Technical Director/Plant Manager and CBC Alberta Retiree Advocate, passed away on September 17, 2013. He was 83 years of age.
BILL RYAN, former CBC Saskatoon/Moose Jaw/Regina TV Director/Producer/Executive Producer, passed away on September 16, 2013. Jim was 82 years old.
KEN HILL, retired CBC Radio executive, passed away on September 13, 2013 in Nova Scotia. Ken was 93 years old.
LIZ McCRACKEN (nee CADE), retired Film Production Editor with CBC Toronto, passed away on September 8, 2013 at the age of 82.
DAVE SMITH, former CBC Toronto staffer, passed away on September 7, 2013. In the 1960's or 1970's, Dave had moved to Los Angeles with other CBC employees.
RON SHURTLIFF passed away in Ontario on September 5, 2013. Before retirement, Ron was Supervisor of In-Plant Printing at CBC Head Office in Ottawa. He was 75 years old.
BOB BOYD, former CBC Ottawa Technician, passed away in Florida on September 4, 2013. Bob had been a studio and remote Cameraman and then Switcher with CBC before leaving the Corporation to move to Orlando, Florida. During his time with CBC he had served many years as Local 74 NABET President with Ottawa Radio & TV.
